The training serials are complex and on a large scale so the intervening days are for planning and debriefing.

That's fairly standard for complicated exercises.
Cobra Warrior at Waddington last year was the same - in that exercise they still flew on the "missing" days, just not large scale exercise missions.

Quite busy this morning with VMFA-211 putting up four F-35B as Wake 41-44 and 617 Sqn launching Ghost 71,73,74 ( Ghost 72 cancelled) for Crimson Warrior.

(In total today [Monday] there were 15 F-35B departures using 10 different aircraft from the British and American jets; 7 USMC and 3 British)

I see in the local paper that the station have announced five covid-19 cases

Interesting comment on the RAF Web site here:
https://www.raf.mod.uk/news/articles/la ... rs-begins/

"The expanded Crimson Warrior includes land based training scenarios for the Lightning stealth fighters and helicopters that will form the Carrier Strike Group Air Wing for next year’s operational deployment of the aircraft carrier HMS Queen Elizabeth."

Is this a sign of the times that land based training will be used for more and more of such exercises?

No it means that the carrier elements will be training from land as if they were operating from the ship. So taking advantage of an existing exercise as part of the work up for the first carrier deployment.

Wednesday 21/10
Horrible weather at Marham with rain and low cloud although the winds were light

Wake 41-44 departed as two flights of two separated by about 20 minutes. The British F-35B cancelled.

Just curious to know what time today's departures were? Was it the morning push at about 1015 or so?
