Thanks, probably one of the worse bases for parking while spotting.
It’s horrible on them roads round there, really want to watch them Marine F-35’s though.
Is there anywhere you can leave your car up to a mile away say and walk to the approach end?
Ian
First time I visited Marham was on a 52-seater coach on a CAS trip in August 1986 - We parked up at the 24 end in the late afternoon and watched the "new" 27 and 617 sqn Tornadoes flying and were then surprised as a detachment of 6 "SP" F-4E's and G's arrived for a squadron exchange. Looking at the roads round there I am baffled how we managed to park a coach on any of them!
Stua|t we got those coaches in all sorts of places, back of benfweters near the church was the best I can recall, sorry for the off topic item
Yes we started the day at Woodbridge (at 6am!) and Bentwaters, involving the long trek through the forest at Woodbridge to get round to what was then the 67 ARRS ramp! Again the coach was parked somewhere near the East gate I think?

Hi Tiger 1,

Could only see into one of the sun shelters just before midday - read off 00, 06, 04, 08 and you could see the coloured tail of the commander's jet too - although didn't actually read 01.

All,

at lunchtime today there were 6 USMC F35 in the left hand shelter. I read these off as CF00, 04, 06, 08, 01 and 03.

When the first 4 had departed at 1225 and 1228, there were 4 in the left hand shelter read off as 04, 06, 08, 01. 03 and 00 departed i believe as the second pair but did not read them off. The first pair were 09 and 02 i believe although didnt read them off.

In the right hand shelter were 4 RAF F35 codes read off as 006, 009, 008, 015.
A RAF machine departed at 1230 after the USMC machines and was read off as 018.

Returned to LN after these departures.

I didnt see 25 or 07 today, hope this helps.

Regards

Brian

Hi Tony P

07 was in the shelter with 02..09 and 25 this morning at 06.30am... 07 was the first jet and only nose and canopy visable and very easy to miss... you then had 02 and 09 then 25 was on the end but there was a gap between 09 and 25 which meant it was easy to miss 25 as it looked like there were only two jets in the shelter at first glance.

I have learnt over 30+ years to check and check again... I missed the commander's jet 01 this morning but was advised it was in the shelter and a re-check at 7pm with the sun in to the shelter... there indeed it was.

My thanks and appreciation to F4JPhantomII for your help with the missing commander's jet 01 this morning... very much appreciated 👍

Hope this helps.

Thanks Tiger1 for clarifying the situation. Were they all in the one shelter please or were the 4 i failed to see parked in another? There was a door opened on a HAS which blocked the view to the right of CF00 so were they behind that?

Hi Brian

We parked up at 06.30am at the bottom of the hill on some hard stand opposite the base entrance.

We then walked back up the hill on the grass verge and saw 3 RAF jets in the first shelter... then a little further up the next shelter had 6 USMC F35s in it which were

00...03...04...06... 08...

Didn't see 01 at this time in the shelter but rechecked the shelter later after F4JPhantomII kindly let me know it was there.

Then walked up a little bit further and passed a few guys walking down towards us who asked what we had seen and informed us that two more were visable in the next shelter.

When I first poled in to the next shelter only 02 and 09 were visable but as you move up slightly and recheck the nose of 07 comes into veiw and you only see the nose and Cockpit with 07 on it.

I did the same going back down the hill and rechecking and this is when you see 25 come in to view.

07 is very easy to miss and 24 is missable to... we passed the same guys on our way back to the car and advised them that 07 and 25 were in the shelter.

Hope this helps.

Thanks Tim, very helpful. Checking the google map on this site i can see there were two shelters and must have failed to see the second unfortunately. As you say correctly recheck. My excuse is that i havent been to Marham for at least 30 years! I will probably visit again in October before they leave but at least i did see 4 take off and ended up with 8 of them! Once again thanks for your reply.

Thanks T1 - indeed we checked & checked again but must have just missed the exact spot. Virtually everyone we spoke to had not seen 07 either - 25 was found by looking across from the other side. We will return!

Hi Tony

It was very difficult to see... It was a case of moving one step check one step check and the nose came in to sight in a very small gap... my mate who was with me took a while to get it even when I put him in the right place.

Hope you get it on your next visit.

Can't help you with the RAF ones, I'm afraid. In respect to USMC examples, this was the siuation first thing on Sun 13/9

1st / left hand shed (front to back)
02, 06, 25, 00, 03 & 01

2nd / right hand shed (front to back)
04 (nose /cockpit only), 09, 07 & 08

Sadly, I was on a tight schedule and solely focused on the USMC machines. As a result, I totally overlooked having a look-see for owt else. Drat!
