RAF Marham
29 May at 16:23 ·
Aircraft from RAF Marham will be conducting further essential night flying next week ahead of the forthcoming deployment of 617 Squadron to HMS Queen Elizabeth. The flying will take place from Monday to Thursday and may continue until 0200 hrs. This training is undertaken to ensure that our pilots are current with all aspects of flying required for them to operate from the carrier.
We do try to conduct our night flying training when the nights are darker earlier on in the evening but unfortunately this was not possible due to the reduced flying whilst the Covid 19 preventative measures were put in place.

With QE sailing Sunday afternoon and the QE North Sea NOTAM starting at 0001 hrs on Monday, would Marham issue a NOTAM just for 617 Sqdn to depart the base for the ship on Sunday? I’m just wondering what the chances are of this happening or if they will join the ship on Monday.

I would have thought they will be flying out to the ship each day, given the current climate.
Would expect the ships crew to be quarantined for some time before setting sail, with limited contact of 617 crew and the ships crew. They may not even get out of the aircraft?
I guess next week will reveal more.

The squadron are going on board en masse, they’ve been in quarantine for the last 2 weeks and the personnel are boarding the ship this weekend. The ship has been at sea for the last 4 or 5 weeks and I believe the crew are not allowed ashore this weekend to prevent any risk of taking anything back on board. This is all part of the work up for next years deployment, I believe there is an exercise they are taking part in, Crimson something I think, can’t remember the full name

Crimson Ocean is the exercise name you were looking for. Crimson Flag is also due to take part at Marham later this year.

HMSQNLZ Twitter are hinting of Lightnings arriving on HMS Queen Elizabeth tomorrow ( Monday)
(Marham don't usually put up any F-35B on Mondays, I don't know why but it is normally more active Tuesday to Friday)
I was hoping for Tuesday as the day of departure from Marham

I’ve just checked the opening hours, it appears closed today, Sunday 14th. About an hour ago
F35 appeared on Freedar UK originating from seaward to Marham. Is this correct or should I lay off the falling down water.

F35s have been operating today and yesterday off the Queen Elizabeth Carrier which is off the east coast.
I think you're good to stay on the falling down water.....
