Construction Status of RAF Marham

Post by RubyRoo » Tue Dec 18, 2018 6:41 pm

I thought this would be a good thread to keep track of all the construction updates happening at the base.

Obviously the refurbed cross runway is complete. The work being undertaken on the main runway is on track.

Google Maps now has updated satellite imagery of the base too. A F-35 is even on the ramp.

Are the HAS's going the way of the dinosaur or will they be retained?

Thanks for the info and map. F-35 not easily spotted, but it is stealth!
Happy Christmas
PS. Where exactly is it?

Plan is for the F-35s to be parked in the HAS' sites but operate from a flight line with sun/rain shelters which you can see being built in the South West corner which will ultimately be home to 617, 809 and the OCU.

Thanks very much, Tony.

Will they also be utilising the Eastern HAS sites?

How about the pan on the Northern side of the airfield?

Eastern HASs will be used as and when they get more F-35s, so might be a while yet, but plans are in place for that, I am told.
Pan on the northside will be used as and when, ad-hoc, rather as it has been since the Canberras went I presume.

Apparently there has been new construction on the North side.

I haven't been to Marham in many years. Can anyone shed any light on what has been built? Are there new shelters being built?

Depends on how many years? The main construction for the F-35B so far is on the south side nearest the A1122, which are lots of US style sun shelters and new hangars/buildings.

Hi Alf, 2019 was the last time I was there for the Tornado farewell. All the F-35B sun shelters/new hangars were up and running at that point.

There's been new construction just to the northwest of the runway.

I was just wondering what that was.

How it is on Google Maps (pre-construction).

How it is on Bing Maps (during construction).

Hangar 1 has also been demolished.

"to support Project Anvil 2" (more buildings to support the F-35B) - does anyone know more specifically what is being built on this site too please (i.e. - more sun shelters/a support hangar/squadron offices)?
