Gary,

So a GR.4 is unaccounted for out of these as 006 is airborne now?

It looks like 005 has gone into RTP this afternoon, last logged on a Leeming squawk! :(

Has anyone actually come up with the reasoning for getting rid of younger(ish) ZG airframes from the early 1990s (like ZG756) as opposed to (some) of the survivors being from the batches from 10 years before?

Is it airframe hours?

I know when they retired Jaguars at Coltishall before 6 moved to Coningsby I read somewhere that 6 took the Golden fleet airframes (best of the lot I guess)?

Does anyone have a list of the twin stick Tornado GR4s? Can't find the one I had  :grr: Be interesting to know how many are in service.

From memory http://www.tornado-data.com/ used to have a list of them but the website appears to be down

The following have departing under Ascot callsigns today 28/01 viewtopic.php?f=8&t=92433 viewtopic.php?f=44&p=577856#p577856

ZA473/032
ZA587/055
ZD716/084

Guess we can expect some airframes back in the next few days. Pure speculation but looking at the dates last noted ZA469 /029, ZA592/059, ZD709/078, ZD719/085 have all been in Afghanistan for a while so could be any of those returning.

Rob,

This should read ZA541/034 ;)

I also have these -

Tornado GR4(T) ZA548/040 - Active
Tornado GR4(T) ZA594/060 - Active
Tornado GR4(T) ZA595/061 - Active
Tornado GR4(T) ZA602/067 - Active
Tornado GR4(T) ZA612/074 - Active
Tornado GR4(T) ZD711/079 - Active
Tornado GR4(T) ZD712/080 - Active
Tornado GR4(T) ZD713/081 - Active
Tornado GR4(T) ZG752/129 - Active
Tornado GR4(T) ZG771/133 - CMU?

I don't have ZA604/068 as being a twinstick however.

Or ZA449/020, ZA591/058 and ZD740/088 (and perhaps ZD890/113?)

Other possibilities are ZA447/019, ZA459/025, ZD707/077, ZD843/106 and ZD851/112, but these only seemed to disappear overseas at the end of 2013 so you wouldn't expect them back yet. Unless RTP beckons!!! :ninja:

There must be a storage container mountain at Marham Gary..... :D

Or somewhere given that they stripped over 90 F.3s for starters, and are now onto the main course of GR.4s :ninja:

armra1972,

When you say stripped on a low loader... Is that stripped out completely for RTP or stripped down for major refurb ?

ZA398/010 'SHINY TWO' is now destined for RTP, they won't fix the Bird Strikes damage however they 'MAY' replace a servicable GR4 fin with that of Shiny Two, so i was told today :ninja:

I just had a thought, if the Midland Air Museum managed to save ZA452 (Gulf Killer) a Desert Storm veteran, I wonder if BAE Systems is keeping similar veterans to one side once they have been stripped for RTP.

I know they can't all be saved but something would be better than nothing, as the F.3 fleet hasn't been so lucky.
