Good afternoon!
I just thought I’d introduce myself and say hello. I’ve just moved to Ely, Cambridgeshire and have been enjoying the traffic into RAF Mildenhall from my house.
Having previously lived near Heathrow I loved tuning into the various ATC frequencies but turning my head to the military stuff has proved tricky!
I’ve found a helpful list of frequencies on this forum but I cannot make head nor tails of it! Could a kind soul please lend me a helping hand in negotiating the basics of military ATC? I would be very grateful.
I hold a PPL so I’m fairly up to speed with civilian ATC procedures, but somewhat out of my depth when it comes to military.
Look forward to chatting to you.
Rhys

Welcome everyone is very helpful on here. The guys on base love seeing the spotters at Johns field give us a wave.

Thank you very much T1, I appreciate it. Further to your PM - I don't seem to be able to respond so I shall do so here if that is okay;Tiger 1 wrote: ↑Mon Aug 19, 2019 5:37 pmHi Rhys

"Thank you very much, I am really enjoying this area of the world. I used to drive to North Norfolk a fair bit in the past and would always make a slight detour via Mildenhall or Lakenheath when I was passing.
It has been a lot of fun watching some very different traffic to what I am used to. At the moment I only own a handhold scanner, but I will be investing in something more permanent in the future.
Thank you for your offer of some interesting frequencies, I would absolutely like to take you up on that! I would be very interested in listening to what they are talking about overhead.
Does military aviation work in a similar way to civilian, insofar as ATC communications go?
If you have any advice for me in starting out I would really appreciate the help.
And if you are ever in the area, drop me a message!
All the best,
Rhys"

Don't worry about the duplicate posting- summat to do with the 'software'?
If you look at one of your messages there should be three symbols top right one of which is a pen. Key on that and 'delete' could be one option, ?
Roger
Edit; Having just posted this I see it's the 'X'.
