Mildenhall on Sundays

Post by Webby74 » Fri Apr 05, 2019 6:25 pm

Evening all, going to be in the area on the 14th April with a few hours to kill so generally is it worth a punt on a Sunday morning movement wise?

Hi Webby74,
It can be hit and miss on Sundays but may be worth a look through the log's on this site to check previous Sundays, could give you some idea of possible movements.
Cheers and good luck.

If you can keep your head whilst all around are losing theirs, you have probably completely misread the situation!!

Brilliant, thanks for the link most helpful. Think I will go see what I get being as I'm in the area anyway

I don’t suppose you know what bank holidays are like? I’m guessing the USAF don’t follow our public holidays but I’m guessing it’ll also depend on the extent they’re affected by our ATC?

Just asking as I’m considering camping down at Johns field on one or both of the May bank holidays.

Cheers

Bank holidays are generally no fly days for USAF, specifically Lakenheath, maybe somethings from Mildenhall but is rare

Today was not a typical Sunday. Other Sundays have had visitors that were worth the drive! Check the movements on the website. You can never be sure what may turn up. Cheers John

I think that's the point bizfreeq was making, in response to the "The hall always. Worth. a. visit. on a. sunday" beforehand...

Cheers Chris, yes that's exactly it and was somewhat tongue in cheek.
TJ please don't patronize me by telling me to do my homework, I've been at this game longer than most on here have been alive and I'm well aware of what's going on long before I set foot outside my door. Just got caught out by the weather when it came to the SJs but thats the risk you take when you have as far to travel as I do
Cheers

I'm a bit luckier than Mark in that I have to travel about 50 miles less (single direction) than him. Because of that, I can delay my departure from home until they would be passing Newfoundland, but it is still a 3.5 - 4 hour trip for me (about 175 miles) depending on traffic, road works (e.g. A14 by Cambridge), etc. No, M4/M11/A11 is not quicker for me.

The point being that, especially if he wants to visit elsewhere as well, Mark has to leave well before any tankers take off from Bangor.

This year Mildenhall will be closed all most all the UK Bank Holidays I'm afraid. :@

Not patronising you at all. Apologies if you felt that I meant it that way. I didn’t. But the statement you made was factually incorrect.
And you would not expect much to be there when notam’d closed.
And the “I’ve been at this game longer than most on here have been alive” is far more patronising than my statement.
But not arguing with you. Life’s too short.

I can remember the mid ‘80s when Sunday at Mildenhall was busier than most current week days, even taking into account the “quiet hours” .

Oh yes, and they were very strict on the Quiet Hours on Sunday - nothing (and I mean nothing) before 13.00. If you caught it during REFORGER, it was manic with C-141s and C-5s.
Cheers, Bob
