B-1s at Mildenhall

Post by RubyRoo » Thu Aug 30, 2018 7:01 pm

Hi there

Is there a reason that Mildenhall has now had a few B-1s come in recently, with supposedly a few more transiting through?

Thank you in advance.

Basically just a shortage of available tankers I believe.

With two in Spain and four at Diego Garcia, 100ARW is a bit down on available strength.

I wonder if also USAF is trying to make a point - need ‘Hall - get DoD to reverse closure decision? Traffic there has certainly picked up over last 12 to 18 months compared to a couple of years ago

Thank you all.

I hadn't realised the 100ARW had deployed to a few different places.

Bob, Last weekend we could only count 4 (definitely), possibly 5 based tankers actually ‘home’.

That was before the 4 departed to DG. Although I know 58-0100 has returned from maintenance since.

Normally 15(?) based ones

Iron, that'd be 86-0134 'EL'.

Steamy, due to a shortage of tankers, they have to land elsewhere. Mildenhall is where the support tankers should launch from, hence it being chosen as the diversion airfield and not Fairford.

Any idea if any B-1Bs are likely to depart on Monday?

One of them is attempting to fill a flight plan for departure today. Report in another thread suggests the second aircraft has it's crew ladder down so, there's a chance that may also leave today.

Sunday morning lots of activity around the remaining B-1B 86-0124 although three of four engines have their covers in place.

Several fire engines nearby so perhaps some more maintenance happening
