MoD Purchase 'Bird in Hand'

Post by Snoop 95 » Tue Oct 29, 2024 12:28 pm

The UK Ministry of Defence has bought the recently-closed pub the 'Bird in Hand' at Beck Row. This pub was for decades a favourite amongst air enthusiasts and US Servicemen based at RAF Mildenhall. What of its future? Time will tell.

It's never going to be a pub again that's for sure. A shame, stayed in the motel a couple of times and it was very convenient.

Expect the fence and gate will be moved closer to the roundabout

Drove past on way home tonight. Very empty and all boarded up. Temporary fencing up all at the grass verge, basically blocking it off.

They need to make the BiH the new G-Club. I am cautiously optimistic that there are a few people in MoD and USAF command with appreciation for history; maybe some good news on the horizon.

Bird In Hand Mildenhall Sold

Post by Alf » Sat Nov 02, 2024 10:01 am

The Bird In Hand pub in Beck Row which has been closed for a while has been sold to the Mod to expand the security perimeter of RAF Mildenhall. A landmark for many spotters over the years now gone forever.

With Trump almost certain to get back in the White House, will he want to close Mildenhall again! The BiH may become part of the planned housing estate!

Why? Bucky P. Trump was the one who decided to keep it open.

It was due to close under the last Trump administration, Biden reversed the decision!

Wasn't Trump going to keep MH open and relocate everything at Ramstein elsewhere (before Biden stopped that pretty quickly).

I think Trump wanted to pull the majority of resources out of Europe, Mildenhalls assets were going to be relocated to Spangdahlem and Ramstein, maybe other bases too, and Mildenhall was going to be closed. When Biden came in, this process was cancelled! Trump is all about nationalism, which meant not sending resources and funding overseas.

Why would having German heritage make him want to close Ramstein?
