RAF Lakenheath 48hr Readiness Exercise

Post by AlexanderClover » Thu Jun 15, 2023 2:04 pm

The annual 48th FW Readiness Exercise is back, with more jets at the base then ever before this will be one busy Ex.

"The 48 FW will be conducting a routine Annual Individual Proficiency Standards exercise from June 20-21, to include night operations. There will be an increase in the use of the Giant voice as well as alarms over these two days as well as on-base Emergency Management responses."

I was going to pop down on Monday - so no flying on Monday then?
Is there usually extra flying on these exercises?

Yeah no flying on Monday, I think it's a public holiday in the US? I was contemplating finishing work early on Tuesday afternoon and driving over and risking there might be evening sorties like this week. It's 50 minutes drive for me though so not sure if i'll chance it.

They will be flying more, likely the sorties will go all the way through the night. I think the last time they did this they didn’t land until 3-4am.

Wow, I don't recall that! I only got into the Military Aviation scene during lockdown/Covid times! There were a few positive to take from it for me! I might just chance it in the hope they launch in the evening. Looks like they'll be back on 24 next week.
