I've never photographed outside the base when 06 is in use, only inside so can't suggest anything from experiance.

The Thunder and Lightnings guide may help, not sure how up to date it is.

The PD guide looks to be more recent, but only suggests one viewing spot on the west of the base.

One of the locals may be able to advise further.

Thanks,i did see a few lay-bys opposite 06 has I passed by on the road.
Would have been better if actual aircraft where aircraft so I could have judged it better.

Hi Powerslave. Yes, arguably you can get Better landing shots at 06, as no tress or road, especially late after the sun has moved. You can go near the Landing lights, and parking in those lay-bys and walking through is a good option. Paths are fairly well trodden by dog walkers or plane enthusiasts. Yesterday, again saw heavy activity from about 3pm onwards, with those landings coming back about 5ish. Am thinking of coming again this afternoon so hope to see you there later!

Forrest gates are a fantastic location for shooting the morning launches on 06. I regularly achieve three-quarter-on topside shots there :thumb:

Yes Forrest entrance is superb till around midday- 1pm, pilot of 3001 yesterday particularly springs to mind, some pure class low approaches made!

Very challenging up till 3pm at which point it’s probably worth calling it a day on that spot if they’re using 06

Ended going to the viewing area again.
Yeah saw them left hand approaches yesterday afternoon.
Talk about coming low over the viewing area.
