F-16 Deployment

Post by RubyRoo » Thu Apr 25, 2019 8:38 pm

All rumours and hearsay at the moment, but...
Unconfirmed reports came to our desk this evening. It is said that "FM" coded F-16C/Ds of Homestead/Regional-ARS (FL) will deploy to RAF Lakenheath (UK) on 3 May 2019. That means that the Air Force Reserve Command (AFRC) 482nd Fighter Wing, 93rd Fighter Squadron "Makos", or the AFRC 495th Fighter Group/ 367th FS "Vultures" will cross the Atlantic Ocean.

Another US Air Force deployment is expected early next week in Central Europe (Spangdahlem is carefully mentioned). This deployment should involve F-16s from Texas. That means that the "TX"-coded Fort Worth NAS JRB/Carswell Field (TX) based AFRC 301st FW, 457th FS "Spads" or the AFRC 495th FG, 355th FS "Fightin' Falcons" are involved or the F-16C/Ds of Lackland AFB (TX). These are Vipers from the 149th FW, 182nd FS "Lone Star Gunfighters" with tailcode "SA".

On top of that... between 21 May and 07 June 2019, exercise Arctic Challenge is held at Rovaniemi air base (Finalnd). Unconfirmed reportings mention the participation of F-16CM/DMs of the 169th FW, 157th FS "Swamp Foxes", based at Columbia/McEntire ANG Station (SC). This exercise also expects F/A-18C/Ds of the United States Marine Corps. So it is possible that Hornets of MCAS Beaufort (SC) are meant, in stead of the McEntire Vipers.

There's been a 93d FS Lakenheath deployment patch kicking about for the last month or so. If I can find a photo, will post it. Erik did have it on his store

Is 3rd May looking likely? Would be the only time I could get down to see them.

Cheers

Still looking likely. Best to be at the heath by 1400 making sure you get a spot.

Forecast for Friday afternoon not ideal; Northerly wind, light rain, and just 8 degrees! :-(

Would the wind mean 06 likely to be used?

I suspect impending C-17 arrival will be bringing ground support kit and burgers....

C-17 and B747 both due this morning at Lakenheath. C-17 should already be on the deck.

Are these maybe in connection with the 492nd going Stateside? Haven’t seen or heard of any build up on the other side of the pond to suggest that this F16 deployment is imminent. Can’t find an ALTRV either for tomorrow, but I could be looking in the wrong places.

Didn't think the 492nd were deploying to the USA until July? According to the 492nd FS article in Combat Aircraft?

Some 494th jets got away yesterday. Believe they went West possibly for Green Flag?
The arrival of a C-17 from Homestead is promising though?
Would think they have to position jets up the East coast of the USA ready for a crossing but as Thunder says no news on any movement yet.

Well the Jumbo today came in from Florida if that means anything. They need to be here before the 6 June for the D Day anniversary as they are part of the flypast from what I hear.

No Shanwick or Santa Maria ALTRV's yet. It's a bit early, but if they ain't posted soon then it's unlikely they'll be arriving tomorrow - assuming they're coming from the states and not back from the Sand Pit.

The original rumour was for mid May and I have heard dates as late as early June which does seem far too late.

Somebody on here usually post's an ALTRV and knows what is on it.

If you are referring to NCR431 at 11.12 that came from Tyndall AFB Panama City.

I thought Tyndall were still trying to rebuild after the Hurricane

By the way does anyone on here know where the TY F-22 are flying from , Eglin or perhaps Langley? Perhaps they could relocate to Lakenheath :)
