Post by puttyhead » Mon Jan 12, 2015 9:49 pm

Hi all
i was at Lakenheath today and at about 2.30 a typhoon took off,It had a red crest on tail with i think a bird in it.
Just after that a 747 landed in National livery.
My novice question is where was typhoon from and what dose a 747 do at Lakenheath.
Thanks in advace

Possibly a 1sqn Typhoon from Lossiemouth, that has a red crest on the tail

Hello Luke
just had a look at your aircraft and its not the same crest .
This plane was in desert colors and the red band was the edge of crest but im sure there was a bird inside plus other things , but my memory might be wrong. This plane was on its own and was escorted to runway by a vehicle.

Oh..... I'm stumped then  Maybe it was one of the production jets out of Warton, they sometimes come out without paint and are a rusty orange colour?

A figment of his imagination, based on the description! Though I am happen to be proven (proved?) wrong.

Reported as a 29 Sqn Typhoon, possibly coded "BO", but the code is not 100% confirmed.

'BO' isn't camo though its normal grey, or was last time I saw it

This was picking up equipment to take to Nellis for Red Flag.

It really wasn't though.

Also, look up the US Civil Reserve Air Fleet.

Hi mate I've got an idea on what your typhoon might be.
http://www.bing.com/images/search?q=cam ... tedIndex=5.
This is the only idea that I have.

Thinking about it, a more logical theory on the colour....
If it departed at 14:30, on runway 24, and sun was shining, it's possible for the low sun at this time of year to give it a 'sandy' colour.
All the best
