Runway 06 makes photograph possibilities (sun behind you) in the morning less easy I think?

That depends where you are watching from though.
You'll get great shots if you go in the field next to the landing lights of the aircraft taking off in the morning with 06 in use.
That's if the sun is out though.

Anybody know when they are due to return to the states? I'm presuming this week or the weekend will make 3 weeks as they originally stated

Good evening all

As I have an extended Bank holiday weekend with also having Tuesday off, what sort of time does everyone think movements may start tomorrow.

Thanks in advance as I have about a 90mins drives to get to viewing area at LN.

Hey up,

I have been watching the posts each day with interest, and thanks to the people on the ground who have provided details of flights since the F35s arrived. Now, I feel I only have a couple of days left before they depart to see them.

I was wondering, did anything fly this afternoon? Seems like there has been little activity in the afternoons. Having kept an eye on the posts these last few weeks, it seems best chance to see a F35 is first thing, right?

How is the weather down there this week? On my rather simple app it looks like it is cloudy and not so photo friendly this week expect Friday. My days off are tomorrow and Thursday!

In all, it is a huge effort to get from home to Suffolk, last time I came down, saw only F15s, time before that, nowt!

I am thinking Thursday, arriving at about 7.30am... would this do it? Is this my best bet!?! Going crazy trying to do the right thing and not waste 300 miles worth of petrol!

Any suggestions?!

If you look at the Daily movement logs you will see they have flown mornings and afternoons pretty much every day, apart from today it would seem. You could always do what we did and just take a chance....our round trip was over 400 miles....that's the risk you take, you win some you lose some. This time it paid off for us but it doesn't always, you have to just bite the bullet. It's disappointing if it doesn't work out but it isn't the end of the world, that's just the way the hobby is. If I kept mulling this stuff over instead of taking a chance I'd never see anything!

Totally agree...first week of the deployment I was there all the way from Newcastle....saw nothing first day but stayed overnight and got all 8, 6 flying and 2 Raptors arriving Mildenhall to.
Well worth the drive!

If they are going home Friday & correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought they were here to exercise with other NATO members. Apart from a couple of day trips to eastern Europe. They seem to only fly with LN's 15's :S

So is that all of the F35's departed now or are there still some to go ? Had planned to be there tomorrow but will defer if I've missed the boat

4 departed today to the states,
The other 2 were airspares and have returned to Lakenheath so still 4 there,
I would suggest you keep your eye today/Tonight on the Notam section to see if the last 4 File a Air Reserve for Tomorrow.

Word at the fence is that the remaining four F-35s leave on Sunday morning
