When I was at school many years ago, I was always taught to read to the end of a subject before trying to answer any questions. A quick look would reveal that the original comment related to people being moved on before the Thanksgiving break.

I’m reliably informed Coningsby spotters park ‘had several cars’ in it at least one day last week.

I think it would very much depend on where you live as to how far you may be about to travel and also the reason. In the more rural areas of the UK you may have to travel a fair distance just for essential shopping but no journey to an airfield for spotting purposes could be construed as essential.

The posting of information such as ALTRV's and daily due lists are unfortunately going to tempt the minority out of the house and all I can say is well done to the local constabulary at Lakenheath if they are moving people on and hopefully fining them. Some do not seem to be able to take this pandemic seriously, it is not going to disappear; just when the figures seemed to be showing a steady decrease today's have massively reversed the trend.

Stay at home, keep us safe and hopefully we will all still be here to enjoy our hobby in a few months time if these miracle vaccines become available.

I will probably get shot down in flames by the spotter police here but I think within the current guide lines you can go to your local airfield and get some fresh air and some mental wellness. You won't be mixing with others and car sharing. I won't be going to Leeming as I am obviously too far away but I would not criticise someone living in North Yorkshire for doing so.

Spotting is an outdoor activity and safe from a Covid point of view and I don't see that travelling locally to your favourite beauty spot , RSPB site or airfield approach is going to do any harm and actually it will do you a lot of good. Don't stay too long , get your number and go home refreshed.

The main thing is don't all go at once and make the carparks look busy by congregating in groups and this is where sites like FC will cause issues by blabbing all over the internet and putting temptation in people's path.

I am afraid I must disagree, you are allowed to go to a public space for recreation. Going to sit at the end of a runway or pull up at the side of a road to get a number is not recreation under any circumstance.

Hopefully all spotters will understand that we in Lincolnshire have been dumped into Tier 3 from Wednesday which means anyone from Tiers 1/2 can only travel through the county to an area in a lower tier but you are not allowed to stop. In other words don't go to one of our bases.

Why the whole county has been put in Tier 3 is anyone's guess. In my area of South Holland we have a lower rate than several of the adjoining non Lincs areas, at least JVT has made it that he cannot go and see his beloved Boston Utd at their new ground!

The government is intending to mean physical recreation, e.g. going for a walk, not sitting in your car waiting for something to happen at an airfield.

there is also the often overlooked mental health benefit of just getting out of the house, for someone less able it's just as important as someone going for a walk...

It should be pretty clear by now that the government doesn't give a damn about anyone's mental health.

Incidentally, if we were talking about going to a night club I might agree with you - but what possible risk is there to stand at the end of a runway well away from anybody else, outdoors?

Very important to not judge someone by your own physical ability...everyone needs to be able to have a change of scenery...we’re not officially prisoners under house arrest. Despite what some on here would wish.

Maybe read 1984 again, it’s very relevant to today now.

I really think you are wrong : from the November guidelines you may travel :-

to spend time or exercise outdoors - this should be done locally wherever possible, but you can travel to do so if necessary (for example, to access an open space)

Spend time OR exercise out doors.

Not everyone will be up for a five mile yomp

I am not going to resort to swearing like one particular person here and I don't want to fall out with anyone but I don't accept your very rigid and condescending attitude.

Everyone goes on about Lakenheath but there are hundreds of proper spotters who monitor their local light airfield for example and I see no issues with sitting on a bench at Old Buck watching the planes. It is not all about White top Boeings !

Exactly, if you don't like the law then tough it is there to save lives. Tier 3 from midnight but with hope from our MP this will change in 2 weeks time.

White top Boeings are well hidden from view of prying eyes, they are in 1/48th scale

How does it save lives? If Herr Borris cared he wouldn’t sanction families meeting at Christmas.

I rather suspect the Govt. have been pushed into allowing an ‘official’ slackening of the rules regarding meeting up at Xmas, as there would otherwise be a fair number of ‘me, me, me and stuff the rest of you’ types who would just plough on and do just what they always do...... :grr:

Just what they like :grr:

I think that looking through the various comments, it's gone slightly off thread.
