Re: Possible SP F16's to Lakenheath
Been reported on Twitter as well, not heard anything concrete yet.
Re: Possible SP F16's to Lakenheath
Any chance the F16s could arrive on Wednesday?
Re: Possible SP F16's to Lakenheath

Re: Possible SP F16's to Lakenheath
Seems a bit pointless them coming to Lakenheath if they are not planning to fly while they are here. I hope they do, it will be nice to see them in the local area. If they don't, then why not just stay at Spangdahlem and not fly....maf983 wrote:Heard same rumours but they will only be parked up not flying!

Could make sense with all the shelters that are empty
Re: Possible SP F16's to Lakenheath
Spang probably has twice as many shelters as it has aircraft.
Re: Possible SP F16's to Lakenheath
Can't believe they won't fly while here!

Seem to remember when Lakenheath's Eagles have relocated to Mildenhall during work, they generally just sat on the tarmac.
Re: Possible SP F16's to Lakenheath
I suppose that if the runway is unusable at Spang, you couldn't get them out. Moving them to an active base means, if required, you could.

Well in that case why not move them to Ramstien , plenty of hard stands and shelters .martmpf wrote:I suppose that if the runway is unusable at Spang, you couldn't get them out. Moving them to an active base means, if required, you could.

Re: Possible SP F16's to Lakenheath
Didn't some SP (blues) F-16s and F-4E relocate to Sculthorpe back in the '90s for the same reason?
Re: Possible SP F16's to Lakenheath
Cannot find a notam or other pub that shows SP will be out of a runway.
Only see one that shows they are closed from 02 JUL 18:00 until 05 JUL 04:00 2017.

F-4Es & F-4Gs were at Sculthorpe back in 1984. I used to live 2 miles under the 06 approach - great days! No record of anything later and no SP F-16s then.slogen51 wrote:Didn't some SP (blues) F-16s and F-4E relocate to Sculthorpe back in the '90s for the same reason?

Yes that was it - only 10 years out and wrong type but do vaguely remember that.
Both the 74 fiscal aircraft with the same tail numbers were there? 74-1656 and 74-0656 or something like that ?

Currently quite a few SP F-16s showing airborne in there usual play areas so it does not look like there ready to depart for foreign shores.

Close - only 4 out this time
74-0652 and 74-1652. Curiously I have 52 different aircraft logged during the detachment - from the 52nd TFW!

Re: Possible SP F16's to Lakenheath
Was the same when the A10's were based at Alconbury many years ago and their RF-4's before that. They all relocated to Wyton and just parked up during runway works!!

Apart from the regular Flintlock exercises, Ohio A-7's deployed to Sculthorpe in June 1986 and May 1989 and England A-10's in August 1990. Those were the days.Nighthawke wrote:F-4Es & F-4Gs were at Sculthorpe back in 1984. I used to live 2 miles under the 06 approach - great days!
