More than likely they’ll be closed over the Bank Holiday weekend, as they usually are.

A guy has posted this on Facebook.Said 492nd and 1 of the F35 units.Thought touch foolish how mad it gets with day trippers who read it.They did this 20 years ago but was something like 2 launches of 4 F15Cs as behind with flying. As I replied to him they normally have to put a press release out well before warning local areas it overfly and not seen one as yet.Not impossible. We will see

God forbid that families take their kids out the house hey!!!! And please don’t blame the so called day trippers for parking poorly. Last week there was 2 very well known proper spotters driving all the way down the field to CG8 at the 05 end of Marham!!!

Why not take the kids to the beach instead of going to military bases to check on who parks where?

Because my 14 year old has grown out of building sand castles so I took him round to photograph the F18s. I would of done it from inside base as I work there but there’s a no unauthorised photography on base rule.

Well… the guy is me and I’m trying to be helpful in passing on information given to me by the squadron … sorry if you don’t believe it Graham.
It was also me who passed on information about the base being open on the 7th April when everyone was saying it was closed, again the information I received was from a squadron.. they flew, and people were grateful for the update.

Sorry Mark.I dont disbelieve you.Its that I know all the procedures that normally happen. They did this for the Memorial weekend and Madingley flypasts and also the year the Cs went up because were way behind with flying hours.Same as they do when they fly after dark.Apologies to any on here I've offended

Can you imagine posting saying the base is closed, as would typically be the case, and then some flying occurred..I’d get roasted ..
there was also the case just after Christmas where initially there was a no flying day .. again we had a situation where a squadron (492nd) said they would fly and in the end it was a busy day … I kept the page notifications updated with information, as I’m always trying to do.
I would only pass on credible information to help people, I’m not one for posting my mates mate said rumours.

No, of course not Mark.We had 1 or 2 situations post covid.1 in particular was the late Chris Wheeler.2 F15s were coming in from Holland. They had to go into Mildenhall as Lakenheath was shut. You know what they did! Poor Chris really copped it! Like he said if he knew were going in Heath he would be there not in his garden at Exning! Keeping your notifications updated is spot on!

PS my last.
Does anyone else here remember the hoo-haa raised when Egyptian Military 01 arrived at Mildenhall on a Good Friday 40 or so years ago? It was carrying President
Sadat over to Camp David to sign a peace deal with Israel. Everyone scoffed at the idea until it called up of final.

I’m going to be passing near Lakenheath on Friday on my way to see family in Rutland. I wondered if there was any info on what time the base might be open for flying & how many flights? I see someone mentioned some fini flights? I may stop by if there is a chance there might be a bit of action. Any more info would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.
