New Year flying

Post by JP5 » Wed Jan 03, 2024 10:49 am

Happy new year, just wondering if flying has started after the Christmas break? considering a drive down tomorrow or Friday if it has.

There are flying today, about 12 F-35's already airborne so Quick Climb Friday looks good for you!

Thanks for the info, what time did they first go up and was it a busy day? Thinking I might try tomorrow.

They went up around 10.10L today, looking at when their taxi clearance was.

I think when you get 5 posts, you can see the UK Heads Up threads and that's where their movements are logged :)

I was there today between 12 and 3. Not checked photos and log yet but quite a number of departures and returns. There has tended to be a mass launch around lunchtime so even if you miss the morning it is still worth it a bit later (depending on how far you have to travel of course). Eagles not flying in daylight today so not certain of pattern this week. I'm sure you'll have a good time if you decide to go.

Do they usually finish earlier or be less busy on a Friday? Been on holiday at Lossiemouth a few times and it's been very quiet on Fridays.

Fridays can be quite busy with flying finishing anywhere between 1400 and 1600. I’d say it’s always worth a visit, even on a Friday with the performance take offs. Yesterday, I think someone said that at least 21 different F-35’s flew although no F-15’s. To get a good idea of the mass launches, if you have time, go on YouTube and search Ted Coningsby or Crazy About Aviation Coningsby and find a Friday date for Lakenheath in their videos and flick through them.

Once you’ve got to 15 posts, I think it is, you’ll be able to access the Heads Up section with all the daily movements.
