Many thanks for that. Me and the missus aim to get to Lakenheath for around 08:30am. So will leave a little earlier instead just in case need to secure a spot at the viewing area or just further along the path.slogen51 wrote: ↑Sun Jun 06, 2021 11:28 amPhilly1971 wrote: ↑Thu Jun 03, 2021 7:33 pmJust to add a final bit of info, Mad flight yesterday all did unrestricted climbs out of Lakenheath, which is fantastic to see. Speaking to some ‘locals’ recently it seems this has become more common lately. Again not sure if it’s just part of their training, or they are aware of the larger crowds sitting in the visitor car park and like to show off! I was at the 06 end yesterday but the folks at the 24 end must have got a great view!
Friday is a good day for unrestricted climb or ' Quick climb' - they are cleared to FL170
Friday 4/6 every Eagle ( 9 reapers and one Echo model) all did a vertical climb out of 06 - obviously best viewed from the departure end.
There are quite a few eagles away and flying has been more limited recently but the great thing about military is that you never know what will happen until you arrive. I would arrive by 07:30 if you can.
Keep an eye open for any G7/potus developments?
Did you know that registration to Fighter Control is completely free and brings you lots of added features? Find out more....

08:30 should be fine but sometimes the Reapers go at 08:00 so you need time to set up etc
Sod's law says they will go up at 11:00 !

Forecast on the Beebs website looks a tiny bit better, until PM. Also as you are setting off early I can recommend the McDonald’s drive through on the Barton Mills roundabout for a cheeky breakfast to take with you through to the car park. It’s close enough for everything to still be hot when you arrive at Lakenheath, and is always part of my trips there, and to be honest probably the main reason my missus comes with me, breakfast is always on me!

The sausage bap from the burger van at viewing area carpark is not to be sneezed at. I prefer mustard.

Weather is always a tricky thing. But will make sure we're prepared (or the missus will)!
Yep often feel the need to grab something cheeky to eat on the way to Lakenheath or when we go to Fairford or The Loop. I get told off by the Missus. But then on the way back home she always says "lets get a takeaway for dinner as it's too late to cook!"
"RESULT!"

Re: Mach Loop possible?
Well got here just before 8am. In total seen 9 F-15Cs including the heritage flight with the blue tails serial 010. Also at a distance I guess taking off from Mildenhall saw an Osprey and a C5 Galaxy! Missus spotted two Hercules aircraft as well as the Osprey. A good day at the 'heath! Thanks guys for all the help

Didn't get a chance to try Dave's burgers this time as wife made sandwiches (cheese and crisps sandwiches are to die for to be fair!)
Did stop off at the MacDonalds on way there as soon as you get near the base, for a well needed morning coffee!
But yep a good morning at Lakenheath and saw some good action. Sun was perfect we felt for pictures.
Wife takes the pictures and tend to do the video work. Sorting out the pics as I type. When I can will try and upload some for the first time ever!
Is Flickr free to use? I've seen the guide on FC and seems pretty straightforward to share aircraft pics.

Agreed Paddyboy! I have Reaper patches on my rucksack and on a hoody I take along when plane spotting (also a Habu patch too). I have a Reapers sticker on my locker at work! A few of the lads at work have commented

Great you had a good day, and yes what a different turn out for the weather versus the forecast. Deffo agree on the coffee, I am a complete snob when it comes to coffee and Dave only does instant, so McDonald’s is the best of a bad bunch!, Look forward to seeing the photos. Hopping to visit myself in the next week or two, just treated myself to a Nikon Z50, of which I have absolutely no idea how to use ( currently have a bridge camera where I tend to point and shoot, badly!) so any tips would be very well received.

Re: Mach Loop possible?
On our Canon EOS200D we just stick on the bigger of the two lenses we got with the camera itself (Canon 75-300mm). Leave it in Auto Focus and select the Sports mode, that allows us to take many shots quickly. So far I feel happy with the results. Mrs enjoys using it. Our Sony Handycam is a good workhorse. I'm slowly mastering panning technique. However got caught out a few times yesterday, when I lost a few of the Eagles up high in the sun, when they did circuits above the runway before landing!!! Oh well never stop learning!Philly1971 wrote: ↑Tue Jun 08, 2021 2:36 pmGreat you had a good day, and yes what a different turn out for the weather versus the forecast. I've tried watching a few YouTube vids on photography tips etc - it's all still way too technical for me!

Re: Mach Loop possible?
Thanks for the tips. Think I will watch some YouTube Videos this weekend and have a trip to Lakenheath on Tuesday to try out my new learned skills. Hoping to have a day in the Loop later in the month as we are staying in the area for a week so keen to get my camera skills up to scratch.

Good luck mate!
The more trips you do wherever the location, the more the confidence will grow. And the enjoyment! And the Bug grows more and more!
Whenever we hear something fly over near our house, we have the camera nearby. Missus took photo's of two Typhoons flying over Birmingham last week Friday! Aiming to get these on Flickr plus some latest shots from Monday at Lakenheath.
