Langley F15Cs - anyone remember?
Langley F15Cs - anyone remember?
Hi,
Hopefully one or more of the long memories or good log keepers can help me out...
I am currently scanning my slide collection and have found a box of FF tail coded F-15Cs landing on at Lakenheath.
Unfortunately there's no date on the slide mounts and I just cannot remember when this was, extensive searching online hasn't found anything either.
The shots were taken from the viewing enclosure side, as they came in to land on Rwy 24
I have 9 serials:
82-017
82-009
82-018
83-014
83-012
82-038
83-026
82-025
83-013
Would very much appreciate it, if anyone has more details.
Cheers
Kev

No problem Kev, I was there myself that day.
Re: Langley F15Cs - anyone remember?
Any idea what they were doing? Staging through - going to or coming back from the middle east?
It's odd my memory had Friday - which the 6th was, so arrival day, but the intel me and my friend has for these sort of things is bad now let alone back then, but seem to remember specifically going up there for them, I wonder how we knew about it?

Re: Langley F15Cs - anyone remember?
Had to consult BAR for that info. They were transiting east to Dhahran, Saudi.

Re: Langley F15Cs - anyone remember?
We were lucky enough to catch a smilar deployment of 8 of their jets the week before, on 29th April, these were transiting to Jordan for an exercise. Kev, your comment re "intel" is interesting, at the time we heard about the deployment (or a rumour at least), we were at the end of the runway at St Mawgan watching German Navy Tornadoes recover as part of an exercise down there, whose name escapes me. A quick conflab between the car occupants and we decided we should just "nip" to Lakenheath on the way home to Cheshire. That's quite a detour! I seem to recall our info came from Morley Lester who was quite prolific in the South-West back then!
Re: Langley F15Cs - anyone remember?
Interesting story Stuart and one helluva detour, hat off to you and your pals dedication!
I was purely into photographing aircraft - my friends who introduced me to the hobby were more aviation enthusiasts as well as photographers, so they would buy magazines of the day and subscribed to BARG. None of us took registrations.
I never got to grips with my slide collection, Some early stuff is sorted, filed and logged but the vast majority (looking like 7000-8000+) are still stored in yellow Kodachrome and green Fujifilm boxes, some with details written on them some with nothing but a processing date stamped on the slide mounts - it's become a monster task and I've quite a few sets of "unknowns", some have been resolved searching on the net but the Langley's I just couldn't find anything at all.
Been a great process for triggering memories though and the variety of aircraft from those years (early 80's to mid 90's) is something else.
Cheers
