"John's Field" Closed due to weather

Post by john@runway11 » Tue Jan 02, 2018 10:54 pm

"John's Field"

Happy New Year
Due to the continued rain, the field is saturated to such a point it will require some prolonged dry weather, before we can think about allowing people onto the site. To that effect the site will remain closed until further notice. The Camping area will not open until March weather permitting.
Best wishes
John

Happy New Year John.
Thank you for all that you do for the spotters by having the field and campsite open when conditions permit.
Dan.

With no authority at all except that I live not far away, there has been a lot of rain since 14th Jan and I imagine the ground is still soggy at the field.

"John's Field"
There seems to be no end to this relentless wet weather in site, which is keeping the viewing area off limits because its saturated.
We have decided to open the gates and let people park in a orderly fashion round the shower block, and on the track round the buildings. Please don't block access so people can get in and out. There is room to park between the bungalow and the sheds on the track that goes round to where the caravans are stored.
The grassed area in front of the toilet block is roped off, do not park on the grass please.
By all means walk up to the viewing area.
Lets hope we get some decent weather ahead!

Best wishes
John

Thanks John,
Yes it's been a horrible time weather wise, it must improve soon although the forecast isn't too good, here's hoping.

We've had successive days of rain here in Suffolk, unlike more western parts (if the weather reports are to be believed), so I can't see the trailer area being accessible by car any time soon, although the fields is on the sandy (well-drained) soil of the fens.

Staying at Center Parc's from the 5th March, hoping to visit during the week as not been to Mildenhall since the Air Fete's stopped & never been to "John's Field". My 11 year old is looking forward to seeing the CV22's(his favourite) flying. Long range forecast looks like it's going to be dry but cold so hopefully the ground will dry out.

I understand their is a charge to pay. how much & where do I pay? Thanks

There is indeed a very small charge, last year it was £1:00 per person, not sure what it is now, pay on entry, and note vehicle registration, you'll see the signage which will direct you.
There is also a strict speed limit.
There are toilet facilities and maybe a small shopette if the campsite is open.
It is no doubt the best value you'll see for a very long time, and the CV22's will be in full view :thumb:
Good hunting
