Honington Tornados

Post by Snoop 95 » Thu Apr 20, 2023 3:39 pm

Just been scanning the current Google Earth and notice that there are four Tornados in various sorry states on the North side taxiway at RAF Honington. Looking back they do not appear in earlier Google Earth photos. Does anyone know why they are there? Battle Damage Repair perhaps?
Tried to attach a screenshot but without success!

Thanks for that Tommc. I am assuming that they are still there as the Google Earth picture was not recent and previous shots did not show the aircraft at all.

I have no reason to believe that the Tornadoes and Gazelle are no longer at Honington.

I flew over RAF Honington on Friday 19-07-2024 and noticed 2 Tornados parked up on the North side...one looked to be complete but the other is missing its tail feathers, which seem to be on the ground nearby. Google Maps also shows these 2 airframes but in a more complete state.

Does anyone know the identity of these 2 specific airframes by any chance as 'Demobbed' has 5 aircraft listed as being onsite as ground instructional airframes.

I have a picture of them but not sure how to attach it on the forum...[any clues on how I do that].

Many thanks in advance

In order to include images, the images need to be linked from an photo hosting site as per this guidance

One is due to go on the gate soon in place of the recently removed Buccaneer.

I remember going to an Airshow at Honington way back in 1992, very well organised with quite a few based Tornados amongst other Aircraft, it was the first time I ever saw an F-15E Strike Eagle from nearby Lakenheath....

Great Tac Demo at that show if memory serves....

Hi, can this easily be seen from outside the base? ZA613 is one I still need.

Thanks in advance!

It's sat in the centre of the NE HAS site. Close to the fence but adjacent to farmers fields.
