Maybe I'm being thick, but what are the 'obvious reasons' for not giving further position reports?

OK, I understand what you're saying but surely once somebody has mentioned the unmentionable and a position or route has been given, then it's too late to worry about giving further reports? I do agree however, the almost daily reports of emergency 'sqarks, skworks, squirks' etc shows a total lack of knowledge and in many cases no grasp of the English language by so called reporters. Ouch! Just twisted my ankle jumping off my soapbox.

This is why Fairford movements should be posted in the UK Heads-up/OTT section as only members with 5+ forum posts can access that section, anyone can read this section and they don't even have to be a member.

Plenty of 'journalists' are members of various forums for that exact reason.

Plus the 5 post rule is no security. A few 'nice photos mate' and its access all areas..

68-10329 landed R27 and vacated at the West end - going too fast to use the normal Dunfield turn off. Fire Department attended as a precaution but were soon stood down.

Totally agree....

Just to explain ....
Unfortunately it now seems to be a regular almost daily event to see on the Yahoo/Google news pages "" Ryanair this ...Easyjet that has an emergency..or RAF fighter declares an emergency , etc etc."
As part of my role as support and control of the PlanePlotter network I check and trace back every media report I find and can quite honestly say that non , in nearly fifteen years , have originated from PlanePlotter users. We are a private network and frown on such actions.

Sadly the web based public trackers are to blame.
There's one particular source in Scotland who seems to have a direct link with the tabloids and of course each time he makes one of his reports , often quoting the web tracker involved , the carrier/agency then has to respond to a media enquiry to explain "Nothing to see here!"

The only time tracking data is released to a third party is on the rare occasion I provide it to the AAIB following an accident.

The present climate dictates that we do our best to restrict what might be deemed "sensitive" information , which is why specific data from our network [especially Mode A ] is now embargoed and why , in this instance , I deemed it prudent to minimise detailed location information.

As for this....

I rest my case M'Lord. :(

Best wishes
