USAF callsigns don't get assigned by Eurocontrol.
USAF crews often use different callsigns on different radios at the same time, so mistakes can happen.
USAFE guidance is to normally file a flight plan, but they're not required to. They can use a flight authorisation form or NATO procedures instead.
The USAFE leadership has in the past reminded Eurocontrol and its peers that they're there to support their flights not tell them what to do (used to happen a lot with a country south of Dover).

Thanks Graham, I had a feeling that may be the case. Hopefully we’ll see the first dual mission launch before long then!
