It’s very common for the bomber triad to conduct missions lasting 8-10 hrs without leaving US airspace.

They have the range to fly from Barksdale to Fairford (as has already been pointed out) but air refuelling, if it happens, may be a training requirement.
or in case they have to divert somewere??

Given that the unsupported range of a B52 is in excess of 8690 Nm, and its 'only' about 4000 Nm from Barksdale to Fairford, if a tanks full B-52 left Barksdale and then had to divert whilst on final approach to Fairford*, it could probably divert back to Barksdale without requiring tanker assistance if it wanted.

* not sure what the max landing weight of a B52 is, but you get the idea. I doubt divert fuel is a consideration for many B-52 missions.

On 10-11 Jan'62, B-52H 60-0040, of Minot's 4136thStrategic Wing, flew a record breaking unrefueled 12,532.28 mile flight from Kadena, Okinawa to Torrejon, Spain so the H certainly has long legs. When I saw this Buff at Greenham Common on the 5th Jan'64 it was named `Persian Rug`- after the above mission, Operation `Persian Rug`.

I watched the live stream of it on the Jet Junkies Live Facebook page - still there as a recording now if others want to view. I didn't hear anything new / different from what's been posted on here already.
