Re: RIAT 2017 / HIGHER FENCE
There is another solution - a couple of observation platforms/bridges either side of the threshold exclusion zone.

Who would you expect to provide such structures?

Just an idea - to give an outside view, have the road under the threshold policed, so no one is allowed to stop within the exclusion zone mentioned, also put a ban on step ladders in the area, and instead have two viewing platforms either side so people can see and take photos safely without being under the approach.

Re: RIAT 2017 / HIGHER FENCE
As the previous guy said, who do you expect to provide and pay for them? I can really see RIAT going for it, encouraging people NOT to go into their show!
Cheers

I dont know who would pay for it, but in regards to any of the trade that RIAT looses out from folks who can not go into the show, RIAT coauld make an aggreement in return for advertising with the camp sites - where by the camp sites charged slightly more (Not as much as going into the show) and part off this could then go direct to RAFBF/RIAT, this would then bring in some money that they would not have seen.

Re: RIAT 2017 / HIGHER FENCE
If a camp site like Townsend made their prices even £10 flat fee for the car and an extra £5 per person, the £5 could go direct to RAFBF/RIAT and the Townsend are still making money, imagine if Townsend had 1000 people at £5 each going direct to RAFB/RIAT, thats better than them getting nothing.

Re: RIAT 2017 / HIGHER FENCE
In the spirit of this thread, trying to maintain the subject of obsurd comments, perhaps this suggestion may fly.
Every alternate year RIAT should be held at Kendrew Barracks. Importantly the fence around the airfield is still the same height as it was when the station was built some seventy years ago.
The costs of reinstating the approach lights, radar etc., could be taken from the funds allocated to the NHS...
A nuthatch has just returned to a tree outside my window. Not much else flying around here

What a wonderful thread!
I'll give Kendrew Barracks a second vote, well done Charlie.

Oh dear , oh dear , oh dear . This thread is making me wish that RIAT is forced to move from Fairford when the RC135's move in . Then those of us who love Fairford for its uniquely interesting ops (U2 swaps , bomber exercises , SOG deployments etc) wont have to endure each Julys alien invasion of 'pushy spotters', litter louts , freeloaders , step ladder of the year contestants , 'know it alls' etc. Oh is my slip showing again ? Should stress in the interests of balance I'm not meaning to tarnish all RIAT fans with the same brush , just the sizable minority of 'aliens' mentioned above . Perhaps I'd better head back to the bunker !

I don't go to RIAT, but I was under the impression that it's a sell out year after year?Cornish-guy wrote: but in regards to any of the trade that RIAT looses out from folks who can not go into the show,

Hold on I enjoy RIAT
Your location Milton Keynes is about 50 miles from fairford so I can't see how I get in your way!
Just give your beloved airfield a miss for a couple of weeks? Do Mildenhall

I consider myself also to be a Loyal RIAT fan having done every single show in the 90s (yes paid full price to go in and spent plenty of money buying at the different airshow stalls - and brought the souvenir book tick list of movements) its only this year and my first back to RIAT since all that time ago where I did not and could not go into the show.johnwayne wrote:Should stress in the interests of balance I'm not meaning to tarnish all RIAT fans with the same brush , just the sizable minority of 'aliens' mentioned above . Sure Slogger you're probably one of the 'considerate responsible' individuauls and I'm sure you don't get in my way . Mind if RIAT moves you'll still be able to go and it might even be a more convenient location for you

Re: RIAT 2017 / HIGHER FENCE
What I meant was that if the local camp sites had an arrangement with RIAT during the event, and contribute some of their takings towards RIAT, could then make some extra money from folks who did not want to go into the show(not everyone likes large crouds of people)Thunder wrote:I don't go to RIAT, but I was under the impression that it's a sell out year after year?Cornish-guy wrote: but in regards to any of the trade that RIAT looses out from folks who can not go into the show,

As long as RIAT was not moved up to Scotland - its location makes no real difference to me.

I just suggested a couple of ideas that would benefit more people in general who wish to see the show from different viewpoints, but still contribute to the RIAT costs.
