Using Optical Aids

Post by skywatch1 » Thu May 11, 2017 9:36 pm

Dear All
Two Biker's stopped on a lovely summer's day to view the Base and some airfield maintenance was in progress. my mate like many, used his Binoculars for that closer look. An on Base camera...noticed this and a Police officer was sent to check us out. Base Security are simply doing their job and as I have a Full and Current SIA Badge and CCTV trained, I'm also aware of what's happening and would call in any improper conduct or Security breech. I also co-operate with Both Wiltshire & Gloucestershire Police.
finally, enjoy the coming month's and lets be sensible with airfield Emergency Gates and, respect any advice asked for or given by the Police, it's for a reason.

You have already said all this in another post. There is absolutely no need for a second airing.

I wonder how many other people were led to this thread by it's somewhat unusual title, only to find this, and a repeat post at that.
I'm guessing this was the most exciting day of the year so far for you.

I think it's quite clear why. The fact that he then took it upon himself to repost it should also help you to understand.

I locked the thread because to be honest it was only going to go one way wasn't it.!!

As far as I'm concerned there is nothing wrong with looking at an airfield with Binoculars and the police were just doing what they should be doing so what's the problem?

Thanks

No problem, just that maybe you could warn the people that argure rather than lock down a thread where others may want to contribute, I do wonder if you would lock it in a simler situation with some of the other members, thanks.

If someone posts something that adds absolutley no value, and doesn't benefit other members, then you have to ask yourself 'what is the point?'

I think the original post, and the one it's a copy of - fall into the above category.
Now that I have contributed to this absolute waste of time and bandwidth i do feel slightly hypocritical, but can someone just please make the thread dissapear?

But it's strange that Mark didn't shut it down this time. The sooner he does, then the quicker the exact same thread can be started up new again the following day

I completely agree, there are some serious ego's on this forum who think they know better than us mere mortals, we ALL have a voice on here, if you don't like the content, don't read it.
If you can keep your head whilst all around are losing theirs, you have probably completely misread the situation!!

Last September I was at Fairford at around 10:30 pm taking photos of the B1 and B52 under the flood lights... Police turned up to see what I was doing!

The previous thread was locked before it descended any further, there was no need for a second thread. The original poster has a history or starting duplicate threads

All RAF bases are on a heightened state of alert, loiter outside of the majority of them for long enough and the MOD plod and or the local police will come to check you out. One of the MOD plod spoke to those who attended the Marham enthusiast shoot about the Security Vigilance Area concept they are touting
