B-1b deployment ?

Post by stealth1234 » Fri Sep 12, 2014 5:00 pm

Someone on the FC Facebook Group mentioned a rumour about a possible B-1b deployment ? Wondering if there was any truth to this at all.

I would be very surprised if we had B1s, thought their theatre of operations very much warmer climes.

I never doubted the B2's. I just find it odd to get B1's based on current FOB and if used for actual operations.

Sure there are people in the know, of which I am not one of them.

Probably are ......I belive they operate in the Middle East locations becasue it offers more flexibility and /or closer to current ops ie Afghanistan and Libya ,saves them having to be dragged by tankers to ops area when they can easily pop up from what is effectively their border.
Basically what I'm saying is,it's easier now for the USAF to have a small number of B1s on rotation in the UAE then it is for them to forward deploy to ffd (as much as I would love to see them ,I'm fairly sure it ain't going to happen )makes more economic sense to have them deployed to the UAE instead.
All the very best as always

Wouldn't a B1-b deployment to Fairford relate to the Russian oppression in Ukraine rather than the Middle East? Surely Obama has pledged further support to NATO recently and regular deployments to Fairford is a feasible option?

Or maybe it's just a training exercise and is naff all to do with actual operations?! Has anyone bothered to consider that? Because, surprise surprise, the B-52s and B-2 didn't go off bombing the living daylights out of anyone whilst over here!

They have a well established base in the Middle East so no requirement for Fairford to be a forward operating base.

Are the Russian 'Bear' flights not just recon / probing flights?

If this is the case the US has been conducting their own - an RC-135 flight heads East on an almost daily basis with days when two have been airborne (well publicised on the BBC website recently when one 'violated' Swedish airspace due to being followed by Russian planes)

Cheers

The US may be carrying out probing flights to the east as well from Japan, Alaska, etc that we are not aware of, Russia is a big place with plenty of areas that could be probed. I think the B2's and B52's that came over in June were quite a show of sabre rattling even though it was a planned exercise, who knows what goes on behind the scenes! :ninja:
B1's to Fairford could be a possibility but I don't think it would be as a show of force as such but would be part of a 'planned' exercise. Would be nice to see some Bones over here again, time will tell but don't hold your breath for too long!

As I agree nice to see them but don't hold your breath. I agree with Bucky P using the B1's to Sabre rattle as some kind of Deterrent can't see this at all. If they do come and I do hope they do, would not see it as anything else than a planned exercise. I don't see them going into Eastern Europe due to Ukraine either, surely that's why the B2/B52's did not stray to close to Eastern Europe for the very reason they don't want to add to the tension already.

Hi Rob666,
Apparently (and reportedly), B1 stealth bombers were involved in the air strikes in Syria against IS Forces in the last 24 hours! --Paul :thumb:
