Thanks for the info' guys, tomorrow it is then, weather won't be too bad hopefully...
If you can keep your head whilst all around are losing theirs, you have probably completely misread the situation!!

SO... just one tanker to get 5x F-35s across the pond then???

Were the Dutch just being ultra cautious with one tanker per F-35 or does anyone know if this trip is being done any differently?

Has anyone had further confirmation this is definitely postponed until tomorrow? Anything official perhaps?
I've got a 100 mile return journey so don't want to miss it!

We are not sure if it is of or not,as the air res is still up (as of 14:43L)all we do know is that the KC 10 that was one of the primary support tankers has had a technical fault ,believed to be with a leak of some kind in the refuelling boom, no runway Notam yet,but anyway I won't have thought that would be up for a few hours yet, even if it is still today ,but the facts so far is that there is a problem with the boom on the KC10 ,weather or not they have fixed it in time is a different mater, anyone know an update on this?.(or can they go ahead with just the one tanker?)

This flight is just the F-35B's, 2 x USMC, 1 x RAF.

It would be one primary tanker and one spare. Same with the Dutch. You don't want too be half way across the Atlantic when the tanker develops a drogue fault..

Defo not coming today. By now they should be around a third too half way across, so someone would have found them!

The faulty boom issue sounds spurious to me. They're supposed to be dragging F-35B's so they need probe and drogue, and AFAIK the KC-10 doesn't use a dangly whotsit on the boom because it has an inbuilt drogue reel in the rear fuselage, and drogue pods on each wing.

I was watching PP over SC, NC and VA this morning, and nothing showing tanker-wise, so seems very unlikely anything will turn up today.

Only 20 USAF KC-10s (I know the serials of 11) have had the modification to utilise MPRS drogue pods on the wings - and they don't always carry them. So it is probable that they will either need to fit a new MPRS set or position a suitably equipped alternative airframe.
