Upcoming Deployment/Exercise May-June
Re: Upcoming Deployment/Exercise May-June
Yes I would be too, its very concerning.. because if the B-1's don't turn up it won't be loud enough!
Re: Upcoming Deployment/Exercise May-June
The residents meeting was about a totally un-related issue and no specific information regarding any upcoming airfield activity was passed to us.

Re: Upcoming Deployment/Exercise May-June
Okay guys, received from Fairford Town Council this afternoon. The liaison officer has confirmed "an exercise will take place over the coming weeks with significantly increased takeoffs and landings although flying activity will take place elsewhere."
She then went on to say that the quiet hours extend from 11pm nightly.
She did not reveal any firm dates but I think we have our confirmation.

Sounds positive...

If you can keep your head whilst all around are losing theirs, you have probably completely misread the situation!!

No reason B-1s would be involved? They're not part of Global Strike Command until September - or am I over-analysing?

Re: Upcoming Deployment/Exercise May-June
They are supposed to realign to AFGSC on 1st Oct. However, a pair of B-1's recently deployed to Andersen as SLAYER 01/02. They have also been calling the AFGSC CP, Red River, on HF. As usual, we'll have to wait and see what turns up.

Hi all,
Just been past the base this afternoon and I saw what appeared to be aircaft support equipment,I could be wrong as I am not sure what it is ,but they were on the ramp outside the B-2A hangar .
Look forward to seeing whatever turns up
All the very best as always

Flying prevails whenever a man and his airplane are put to a test of maximum performance.
Re: Upcoming Deployment/Exercise May-June
For what it is worth, Scramble are suggesting that the deployment will consist of two B-52H's returning home on 20 June.

That somehow does not coinside with the 400 personnel being deployed and the huge number of trucks, mini vans, cars etcplmc135 wrote:For what it is worth, Scramble are suggesting that the deployment will consist of two B-52H's returning home on 20 June.

Next week is still too soon IMO, but time will tell.stealth1234 wrote: I saw the same. Looks like we could see some movements next week..

Re: Upcoming Deployment/Exercise May-June
Er, most deployments don't have 200 ground crew per aircraft?
Re: Upcoming Deployment/Exercise May-June
It's not just ground crew that they brought over last time, it's their own base security, catering staff, back room admin, refuellers, maintenance, engineers, flight planning, and a whole range of other personnel for the deployment, so 400 people for two aircraft would still be feasible. It's not just ground crew that make up a deploymentGT3ZZZ wrote:Er, most deployments don't have 200 ground crew per aircraft?

Re: Upcoming Deployment/Exercise May-June
Exactly. I lived on a USAF base i know how deployments work.. And i know 400 personnel is considered pretty extreme for two B-52's. Also no catering people or special security were deployed to Fairford last June however they were when Obama was here.GT3ZZZ wrote:Er, most deployments don't have 200 ground crew per aircraft?

Re: Upcoming Deployment/Exercise May-June
I was working as part of the RAF guard force for the run up to RIAT last year in June and the USAF DID bring their own guard force to man the gate at the accommodation side of fairford whilst the exercise was on. They all left on the C5 when it finally worked! Think they had their own chefs too at the mess on the accomdation site too! But sadly we weren't allowed to eat with them!stealth1234 wrote:Exactly.
