Interesting how a Barksdale B52 is being used for this and not a Minot one from Fairford.

Not really. The AFRC 93BS/307BW has been doing Ostrava NATO Days for a number of years now and will have had the funds for this committed for some time. The Minot ones at Fairford are on an operational deployment and are totally separate.

Ive been trawling various posts trying to find when the B52s are due to return home.Has this been announced? If so any information would be very much appreciated.

The best guess is probably next weekend or thereabouts. It looks likely that B-52’s are taking part in Ex. Astral Knight 2020 which takes place next week in Eastern Europe. They are certainly one of the assets mentioned in the Aviationist article that has been shared on this forum. There is also a USAFE press release.

However as the above poster says actual date they will depart is not known by anyone on here as of yet.

Interesting vid at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PI9vXfcnKGw
Do USAF post these videos somewhere on an open source licence? Its just I've seen several YouTubers posting this exact video.

The USAF's policy on social media has changed mahoosively recently for situations where some free propaganda helps. YouTube is full of legitimate videos now filmed by crew with their own phones and GoPros from inside Buffs the day before which they also share with the USAF. They just have a ground rules about what not to film.

Intriguing that they had their chat over an open channel and not via secure comms. I'd be a tad concerned at the look this portrays if I were their CO.
What would your concern as their CO be? I'm intrigued.
Moved from yesterday's tracking thread

Firstly, OPSEC, secondly, morale. Also, it could potentially be useful propaganda in the wrong hands.

They've got bigger issues than some interplane chat, think you've only seen or heard the nice stuff. Have a read about on the US military forums or Reddit. Much easier to find dirt of why the US military is broken on there. Also no mention of weapons, tactics, techniques or procedures.

I much prefer it when they are their usual gungho, go-getting selves, like when they came back from their first Ukrainian sortie. The comms then was epic. I assume one of their senior crew led this flight.
