The Radio translations states that the B52's will carry out the mission and return to US without stopover therefore, does this suggest that these two will not be the ones based at Fairford?

The B52's coming to fairford are nothing to do with the two doing missions to sweden.

If any B-52's come to Fairford.. Would i be wrong in thinking the exercise may only consist of C-130J's ? Hence why we have had no equipment arrive as of yet ?

Hi Sam,
I'm guessing the support will arrive later this week, not early, just my luck, working from Wed' onwards!!
Cheers

I have heard that two C-5s will arrive with equipment on either Wednesday or Thursday this week.

Don't forget the Atlas Air 747 as well, ahead of the B2's.

Last year support arrived on - 1 C-5, 1 C-17, 1 B757 National, 1 B767 and 1 B747 both Atlas Air.

Support departed on - 2 C-5's, 2 C-17's and 1 B767 Omni Air Transport.

An additional C-17 also visited but was unconnected with the exercise.

Support wise, the aircraft involved in last years bomber exercise have been outlined above. Logic dictates that we will see something similar supporting things this year.

As for the aircraft actually involved in the exercise this year; if you had looked back through the thread you would have found that the general consensus is that we will see both B-52s and B-2s.

No one knows for sure, and those who do will not be at liberty to say. There's not long to wait now until the aircraft arrive on the deck and then we'll all know for sure.

So it means that RAF Fairford is active for the next four weeks?. Will there be no additional individual NOTAMS anymore, to stop all speculations?

Expect Runway and ATZ activation NOTAM's as normal.

AFAIK if the MATZ has been activated, there's no requirement to report anything being activated below it, it's implied.

I may be wrong though!

If you recall Chris, a MATZ activation NOTAM was issued before last years deployment and every days activity was NOTAM'd separately when the ATZ and Runway were open. I don't see any reason why it would be different this time.

cheers,
Graham

Guys, can anyone remember the duration last year? 4 weeks seems excessive?

Seems pretty much the same as last year. I'm no authority on any of this but it looks like the bomber deployment movements were between 02/06/14 and 30/06/14. That I think is from the first support arrival to the final support departure. The B-52's were at Fairford between 04/06 and 20/06 and the B2's 08/06 and 15/06.

First support arrivals 2nd June - last support departure 23rd June.

The C-17 on the 29/30th June was the support for the abortive F-35 deployment.

Thanks for putting my dates straight Graham. I thought that it was quite a delay for the final support departure. Anyway, I guess that the duration of the NOTAM is more or less in keeping with last year.
