Post by EAGLE » Mon Jul 18, 2022 2:58 pm

Runway has been fully closed due to it melting in the heat. Currently only ZZ331 is showing as airborne, and will have to divert into Prestwick
NOTAM states RWY 07/25 CLOSED. 18 JUL 10:43 2022 UNTIL 22 JUL 23:59 2022. CREATED: 18 JUL 10:45 2022

And who do you suggest should pay for Brize to completely rebuild its runway in concrete?
Cheers

Ascot 9911 just returning from the Poland CAP also looks to be heading to Prestwick.

In a statement posted on Twitter by the Ministry of Defence, RAF said of flights at RAF Brize Norton:
"During this period of extreme temperature flight safety remains the RAF's top priority, so aircraft are using alternative airfields in line with a long-established plan. This means there is no impact on RAF operations."

Atlas ZM403 routed into Northolt at 11.30 this morning as Ascot469…..apparently crew went back to Brize by road. Brize runway “unusable” until 23 apparently!…..think 2x Herks in Cardiff ?

Thought Coningsby (and Marham) have concrete runways?

Orbiting I guess awaiting the results of a Brize inspection.

I went to know because beach landings are scheduled this afternoon but only if Brize is back open.

Ascot 888 is visual circuits at Fairford followed by instrument patterns at Brize.

Touch and go's not permitted, low approach only although I think he may be able to land straight in at Brize after. (I didn't hear the controllers response)

Fair enough, he vanished off my tracker and too low for VHF from SE Wales.

Trying to establish if the runway is open. If it's not I can save myself a 90 mins drive and 4km walk for the beach landings later today.

Looks like it's open. Long trip this afternoon for me for a usually cancelled last minute tactical landing at Pembrey then!
