C-130J ZH873

Post by IanM » Tue Jan 16, 2018 8:19 pm

All,

The UK Serials website (Losses section) has this Herc as having been written off in August 2017. Does anyone know why?

There is nothing in the ASN database for ZH873 that I can see.

It would have been on deployment/detachment to Akrotiri (or beyond) at the time. ADS-B shows what appears to be a last flight on 07/08/2017 as RRR9906 and nothing since.

Thanks Bob.

Any idea where its last flight was from / to?

Ian,

ADS-B doesn't show it, unfortunately. It just gives the date. https://database.adsbexchange.com/Virtu ... tOnline=0#.

The only other bit of information is that "demobbed"/"eurodemobbed" just show it as "damaged".

If I remember correctly it struck an IED whilst landing at an airfield in Afghanistan and was deemed to be damaged beyond repair due to the location and blow up in situ.

MRTT - I stand corrected I miss read the original post. However having asked an individual who works at Brize 873 was suffered a landing accident whilst deployed on operations east of the mediteranean. Due to the extent of the damage, accident location and the fact that the RAF is to reduce its C-130 fleet to 15 aircraft after the last defence review the decision was taken to write it off.

Hi
873 was one of the aircraft that was to be retained. It is the C5s that are being retired.
