Flight from Wuhan in Brize

Advise DO NOT travel to Brize Norton today as a number of roads around the airfield will be closed for security reasons.

I doubt they would be in party mood - the British passengers have just gone into 14 day quarantine for what could be a fatal illness!

It was nearly empty because the rest got left behind. due to travel delays getting to the airport. I suppose those left behind will have to chance to luck as to whether they survive.

They were supposed to be "up to 200" on this flight but due to "lack of clarity" as to who could leave and delays in getting to airport through roadblocks, bans on use of public transport and most private car use, quite a few missed this flight.

Lots of panic for what? How many people die each year of the flu?

Wouldn't it have made more sense to fly direct to Liverpool or Manchester, it's a bit much to having to endure a three to four hour coach trip up from Oxford after a long flight from China.

Possibly, however as Brize Norton is the UK's main (only?) non-civilian passenger hub it's probably easier and safer to manage the passage of the returnees through Brize than an equivalent civilian airport. Whilst other RAF stations might be closer to the North West they may not have the same passenger and customs/immigration facilities.
