MC-130Js

Post by page_verify » Sat Mar 27, 2021 4:13 pm

Mutterings over on arrse that the UK might be getting MC-130Js to complement its MH-47s.
(There's also mention that the Red Arrows will be moving to a new type after Hawk T1 is retired.)
Fill your boots with the rumours from over there!

It's also where a few good 'insiders' went when pprune went downhill over the last decade, I guess you need to filter the wheat from the chaff.

Wouldn't it be better to modify the current 130s into MCs to save a few bucks and please the bean counters

Would be nice if it happened, if of course being the key word.

If we're that much in alliance with America why not ask them if we could borrow their AIrcraft from Mildenhall, who knows we also might get use of the Osprey as well?

No truth in the MC-130 rumour. As for the Reds, I guess they may well get a new type when the T1 goes but that’ll be in 2030 and MOD isn’t planning that far out.

Special ops aircraft are in high demand so I don't see that happening. But you can dream i guess

As said already, they're busy enough with their own work.

That'll join the "RAF Rivets Joints moving to Mildenhall" as a discussion point on social media then.

No. Given the RAF C130’s are old, are the longer variant, will undoubtedly carry different equipment, perhaps have different structural and material specifications, creating, in all likelihood, a new type that would require expensive and unique to type certification, it’d be far far cheaper and easier and ultimately more cost effective to procure MC130’s new.
