The part is in Aerospace Primer/anti corrosion paint, a yellow /green. It would have come from some Internal moving part. Like the undercarriage or flaps.

Glad no one hurt, I would of kept it and mounted it in the spare room!

Maybe that would explain the 3rd buff going round that night, maybe had to check runway for missing part

Suspect temp grounding whilst they check the aircraft and try to understand why that part detached in flight
If that’s the case they’ve taken their time as the incident happened last Wednesday, and all three a/c that flew that day have since flown again?

Apparently a service bulletin released for a check of all airframes regarding the miss hap. This is just standard practices in aviation. Would have been nice to catch them loaded with paveways, but it wasn't to be today

The first a/c landed back an hour after the alleged incident, it doesn’t take that long from Banbury to Fairford does it :S

Part came from the gear door, apparently!

Just read that article, and it states the incident happened around 1700L, nearly 1hr and 20 mins before the first a/c recovered. As far as I can remember the a/c came straight in and didn’t go into any kind of hold pattern. Even if it took the a/c 20 mins to fly the distance between incident and landing, still an hour missing?

I wonder if they've got the wrong Wednesday and it was the 16th and not the 23rd, as this flight would fit in with the times

B-52H, 60-0028/LA, DOOM62, dep 1406, arr 1722

Looked at the daily log and it's the only flight of the whole deployment that the timings match.

Based on your reference to last night and the article refers to 23rd - just trying to help.

The offending piece came to earth in Brailes, Warwickshire, not Banbury. :S
Still not an hours travel time I wouldn't think!!
If you can keep your head whilst all around are losing theirs, you have probably completely misread the situation!!

One of the press releases stated 'Brailes, Banbury' hence my reference to the latter. However none of the press releases seem to be accurate in any form.

"BRIG03" the last of the 3 a/c to recover did indeed do a go round last Wednesday the 23rd at 1848ish, seemly due to a chute problem. Fairly sure no connection to the reported incident.
