Yeovil sightings Spring 2015 (March-May inclusive)

Seeing as how March 1st is the 'sort-of' first day of Spring, let's reflect it in a new thread

It's been snowing/sleeting this morning. Still feels like winter to me!

Sunny but cold in Andover! Yeovil much closer to here than Manchester but it's sleeting up there too.

Beautiful sunny day in Wiltshire too. Virtually no cloud whatsoever and no precipitation of any sort. Nothing of interest over the top, though - apart from some F-15s

Been visiting the site of the old Andover airfield, Chris (or the other side of the road)??
Cheers, Bob

Quite active today - ZH824 and ZZ514 both flew, as did one of the Algerian Lynx, but it didn't show on SBS. Also had something with ICAO [000001] pinging but it was too cold to venture down to the fence and investigate.

A rare visit for me today just saw a unreadable Navy Merlin on the ramp at 11:00. Sadly work have deemed my day return trips to Plymouth, involving more spotting than working, uneconomic and have contracted out the work, was nice while it lasted!

Raytheon wrote:Hey folks,

Been looking to get back into my aviation hobby for some time and I found FighterControl. I'm Ray, live just on the outskirts of the East side of Yeovil with a window facing Westlands RWY 27 finals which is nice. Used to work as an ATCA at Yeovilton before they ditched the civvies in the old tower so know the place pretty well.

I'm resurrecting my old scanner at the weekend and, if you guys are ok with it, I'd like to make the odd contribution to this part of the forum when I have some free time with pics and spots. You'll have to let me know if I'm putting my foot in it and posting in the wrong section. My first spot being 'QQ101' the ETPS RJ100 out of Boscombe flying a wide orbit pattern past Yeovil on the 10th which spurned me to sign up (hence 2 days late).

Flying as ETP74, I caught her as she was banking a 180 against the sun, descending from her 9,000ft pattern to head back to Boscombe. Also on the scope was a FRADU Hawk (at least according to FlRadar) operating North of Yeovilton and an FRA Dassault Falcon 20 which took itself up to 33,000ft for several orbits on the same path as the RJ100, but counter clockwise, before heading back to Southampton. Click on the thumbnail below to open a bigger picture.

Cheers, Ray
More the merrier, though this particular thread is for stuff in/into/out of Yeovil Westlands (Judwin), not overflights or Yeovilton (Yeovil Radar!) movements

Be careful posting photos in this section - They're supposed to be put in the Photography sections, and some people can get a little upset when rules are bent/broken. About 10 minutes after QQ101 was over, there was a KC-10 with 6xF15's OTT. Don't suppose you got any piccies of them?

PS: Are you the Ray from the Autobahnstormers - with the Monza? If you are, then I'm Malcolm with the LC.

Wednesday 18th March

Noted this morning (10.30 to 11.30) were
ZZ401 and ZZ515, Wildcats, the latter of which flew
ZR352 HH-101A, with no rotors and various panels missing. It was showing off its Italian serial MM81864

Over at Yeovilton, ZZ514 was operating with 825 sqn using a Talon callsign

Edit: Sorry about the date - I was a week out!

For the record: we noted Lynx Mk140 ZK191 and ZK193 around 5.

Anyone know what Westland 03 is operating as today? Looks to be fitted with a large pod and just touched down at Boscombe
