REQ: Yeovilton 30/03/16

Post by jph727 » Sat Apr 02, 2016 6:09 pm

Hi All

I made a quick visit around 17:30 after working in Langport and while approaching the base down the road that crosses over the B3151 (the best description I can give because no road name is showing on Google maps), in a yard on the right was a fuselage with either the reg XE943 or XF943, I couldn't quite make it out and hoped that my database would help me confirm but it hasn't due to my poor recognition of classic warbirds. XE943 was a Vampire that was apparently sold as scrap at Shawbury to a company in Ascot way back in '64 while XF943 was a Hunter that was damaged beyond repair at Kemble also way back in '62. Can anyone on here confirm the reg of what I saw please? I think it might've been the Hunter but like I said I can't be sure.

I also noted Merlin's ZJ118 and ZJ123 parked outside on the actual base.

I'm wondering jph if you saw the dump area, that is down that end of the airfield.
The link below has some photos which might help you.

I would suggest maybe Sea Hawk XE340 in external store in the Cobham Hall compound. The demobbed website has a picture if that helps.

Hi Cessna954, you are correct, it was that frame I saw. How did I get that reg so wrong? Thanks for the help!

colt99 I was unaware of that dump area, I'll have to investigate next time I visit.
