ZJ994 Palm Tree

Post by dstock62 » Tue Oct 22, 2024 3:36 pm

Noted ZJ994 at RAF Leeming this week on its way back from the PoW, and I noticed the Palm Tree motif on its tail.

Does anyone know what the Palm Tree signifies as it does not appear to relate to the NAS squadron badges?

For completeness it also carried a white 846NAS emblem on the Nose

Just interested. :-)

I believe 846 adopted the palm tree as its emblem many years ago.

Thanks Nighthawke,
I have subsequently found an interesting article from 2012 that talks about the formation of 846 NAS and their involvement in Borneo in the early 60's, and their adoption of the Palm Tree logo
It also explains the 'Jungly' callsign as well.

Jungly is used by 845 NAS, 846 use Commando
