I see from reading the Lyneham Village online website that MOD/RAF Lyneham has been given permission to develop the former RAF Lyneham site into a Defence Technical Training College for all three services subject to certain restrections.
See Wiltshire Gazette and Herald,Green Light for £230m Defence College at Former Lyneham Airbase.

Re: MOD Lyneham
Wasn't this decided before Lyneham was closed as an active airfield, or have they only just got the permission to do it?

Re: MOD Lyneham
Its a good job then, as its already being built! Plus they've already put higher fences up to make snapping the Jaguars harder!

Thanks for you reply. RAF Lyneham closed in 2010 and remained in MOD hands untill its future was decided.
Plans to rebuild areas of the base were submitted to Wiltshire in 2013 and the have just been given the go ahead to carry on updating the base.
There has been lots of work going on since the base closed in 2010 notibly a new security fence, demolition work and felling of trees close to the perimeter fence.
It will be nice to see some action as at the moment we get the occasional Hercules Low Level across the field heading to salisbury plain and a few light aircrafy uing the airspace for aircraft handling.
