Morning all

How many RAF Herks are left at Lyneham?

Gareth, not sure how many are at Lyneham on a normal day, but last night there was only 3 at Brize.

Thanks Pikey, so probably quite a few still left at Lyneham, will have to get up there this week.

No problem. I've been told all the old 101Sqn bays at Brize are being renumbered (possibly repainted aswell) so perhaps that's why the majority haven't moved over yet. The 3 parked up yesterday were parked elsewhere on base.

They just have a few over at brize to cover the 'closed/no flying' hours at lyneham, and at weekends. the most i've counted on the ground, in recent weeks has been about 15

Worth pointing out there are currently 8 x C130's at Brize now (6 on the main pan, 2 over by the tower possibly K's) so certainly looks like the aircraft transfer has begun...

Was at Lyneham on Tuesday there were 14 or 15 on the ground, so i guess a couple have moved to Brize since then.

Ive been told 6 went in overnight last night, however there was only 5 visible this morning. The other 3 arrived around lunchtime today. Hope that helps

as i left work at 8pm tonight, there was only 3 on the pan at lyneham, and 3 in the hangars. ther are 2 dead ones also.

so in total 6 flying hercs left, and i spoke to a loadmaster today and he said, thats it now, no hercs will return to lyneham, anything that flys out... will land at brize.

Indeed it will be very sad to see Lyneham Go. I was told today that there are now only 2 Herc's left to fly out.

its gonna be quiet on night shift tomorrow then.. no visiting aircraft to handle. No ground equipment needing moving because no Hercs. hardly any point me being there.

It must feel horrible for you guys, it's sad enough that the place is closing, let alone if you grew up next to or worked there

Drove home tonight and passed a row of ex-Lyneham Hercs, seems really strange seeing them there.

yep, ive worked with them for the last 11 years, since i was 16 straight out of school, never had another job. its certainley gonna be strange not having them around
