Lyneham Herks moving?

Post by Blackcat1 » Fri May 13, 2011 4:59 pm

Hi all

Does anyone know when the Lyneham Herks start moving to Brize? and what is the last day of Lyneham Herk operations?

Thanks
Gareth

Apparently all Hercs will be at Brize by 1st July, with Lyneham ceasing flying ops by september. After that it will only be open by Notam. That's what I've been told anyway.

So when Lyneham ceases flying? What will happen at the base?

We at the Flying Club are getting moved on on the 19th of July at which time most of the Herc will already be at Brize. The only hercs at Lyneham then will be the ones on Annual maintenance and they will be moved over to Brize by September.

So nothing finalised yet then. Thought maybe you'd go to Kemble.

According to an email i just saw on another yahoogroup...

Lyneham is to close every weekend and only have flying up until midnight during the week. So a big downturn in operations before they move to Brize.

This nowmeans that they have to NOTAM every hercules that recovers after 11.00pm every day?why not just leave it 24 hours until closure?
May the skies be clear and blue and the wind fair with a guiding star to steer by.

Because they will already have started to run down staff numbers (ATC etc).
