Two very large abnormal loads consisting of a Hercules C130 Aircraft fuselage & Wings will move through Wiltshire on Sunday 28th November 2010.
Specialised load transporters will be escorted by Wiltshire Police Officers starting from RAF Lyneham, and travel to Hixon, Staffordshire.
The transporter with the fuselage will measure 4.93 metres (16ft – 02ins) wide, 4.9 m (16ft-01ins) high with an overall length of 41.66 m (137 ft) and gross weight of 60 tonnes.
The second transporter with the wings will measure 4.50 metres (14ft – 09ins) wide, 4.00 m (13ft-02ins) high with an overall length of 25.00 m (82 ft) and gross weight of 44 tonnes.
Due to the size of these transporters they will be slow moving and will have the potential to create congestion. Wherever possible disruption will be kept to a minimum but hauliers and motorists are asked to please be patient if they come across these loads. Anyone travelling over this period to catch a flight or attend appointments should allow sufficient additional time.
To further ensure delays are minimized as far as possible the movement of these loads will be passed to local radio stations from our control room at Devizes for up-to-date traffic and travel information, which will be useful to motorists in planning their journeys.
These are two of the largest conventional loads to use the A3102, and due to their huge size they will be escorted by officers of the Wiltshire Northern Road Policing Unit based at Swindon.
These movements will commence at 07:00 am Sunday 28th November 2010 from RAF Lyneham, where the loads will be transported on the A3102 in convoy through Wootton Bassett to the M4, junction 16, before heading Westbound on its journey to Hixon.
