Pl. can anyone identify the squadron whose patch is seen on this recently scanned pic of an A-10 pilot? From my ornithological knowledge am thinking 91 TFS 'Vultures' but verification required.

I would agree it's a Suffolk based squadron from back in the day but I thought it was the 511thTFS with the aircraft marked with Black fin-bands, outlined in white and the "Vultures" name in the band, not the 91st TFS which were blue?

Three of the WR Sqns. were named after birds. 91st - Vultures, 510th - Buzzards and 511th - Ravens and I must say that the cartoon bird depicted looks more like a Vulture than anything else to me rather than a Raven which is all black. Does anyone have this patch in their collection?

If you google it you’ll see it’s the 511th.

Already done guys. Defo the 511th known as The Vultures. Don't know where I got Ravens from. Probably a NFL telecast! Anyway found the 81 TFW website with all the patches which resolves the issue. Thanks for the help.

511th along with the 509th, in the late eighties transferred from the 81st TFW (WR) to Alconbury (AR) to form the 10th TFW (formerly 10th TRW). I remember someone stuck a 'Vultures' zap to the MOD Alconbury road sign, used to keep an eye out for it whenever I drove by. Wonder if it's still there? Probably sun-bleached by now if it still is (like the plastic F-5). ;)
