Post by tornado17 » Sun Feb 28, 2021 11:43 am

This year is the centenary of the Royal Australian Air Force. In the link below is the official air force shop. There are patches, coins and much more for those who collect aviation related products:

I've copied and pasted an e-mail that a friend received from the organisers in Australia on the events, unfortunately, the pictures have not appeared.

Centenary Week

Our 100th anniversary is fast approaching! Many of the keynote events will be in Canberra – involving Air Force personnel and aircraft from almost every State and Territory.

On 31 March, the presentation of a new Queen’s Colour for the Royal Australian Air Force will occur at Government House. This will conclude with the Spectacular Centenary Flypast over Lake Burley Griffin – more than 60 current and historic aircraft will participate!

For those unable to be in Canberra, a two hour live television broadcast will be available to view on the ABC1 from 1000 local time, including the Colour Parade and Spectacular Centenary Flypast. This will also be viewable on iView and our website.

Note: Due to COVID-19 and capacity constraints, the Colour Parade is not open to the public. Members of the public in Canberra are encouraged to gather in a COVID-safe manner around Lake Burley Griffin to view the flypast

Royal Australian Mint - Centenary coin release

The first coin minted anywhere in the world in 2021 showcased our Centenary!

During 2021, visitors to the Royal Australian Mint can purchase their own $1 Centenary of Air Force commemorative coin and packaging featuring some of our inspirational people – including Sir Richard Williams, Wing Commander Robyn Clay-Williams and Uncle Harry Allie. There is also a special proof gold and silver coin available.

Our Centenary year opened with the release of the first coin sets at the Royal Australian Mint on 1 January. Chief of Air Force, Air Marshal Mel Hupfeld AO, DSC pressed the first coin of the year – part of the Heroes of the Sky series. Acting CEO of the Mint, Ms Cristy England and Warrant Officer of the Air Force, WOFF-AF Fiona Grasby OAM also attended the launch.

The Royal Australia Mint has also produced a RAAF ‘Zoombag’ containing six circulating coins, a special commemorative token and a 3D puzzle of a F-35A Joint Strike Fighter. For details, visit: ramint.gov.au

Australia Post stamp issue

On Tuesday 9 February, Australia Post released its Centenary stamp series. The two principal stamps feature the SE-5A, one of our first aircraft and the F-35 Joint Strike Fighter. There is also a 12-stamp set displaying some of our best known aircraft from the past and present. Keep an eye out for the new stamps at AusPost shops or on an envelope near you!

Paper pilots take off!

The Air Force 2021 program wants to inspire the next generation’s interest in aviation. Paper Pilots Dylan Parker and James Norton are working with us to develop content and resources which will be available on the Centenary website.

There will be teacher’s resource kits (aligned to National and State curricula), paper plane folding and flight science videos, Air Force-dedicated paper plane designs and instructions, social media content and online ‘Flight School’ shows.

Dylan and James competed at the 2009 World Paper Plane Championships achieving 3rd place in the distance category. Their story inspired an Australian Story episode and the feature film ‘Paper Planes’.

Air Force Centenary products

A great range of commemorative and collectable Centenary products, books, mementos, clothing, toys and gifts are all available through our Official Air Force 100 shop. Check out the special edition leather flying jackets, historic aircraft medallion set, pilot teddy bear, and the unique Aviator and Airfield centenary watches from Bausele.

Centenary releases from the Royal Australian Mint and Australia Post are also available through the official shop. These are going fast.

Base signage

Excitement is building at all of our bases – which are planning to mark the Centenary locally in a variety of ways. Look out for Centenary branded signage at all of our bases – such as this display at Richmond.
