XV582 50th Anniversary Coin & Patch Set. To celebrate 2019 being 'Black Mike's 50th birthday, we commissioned the following, strictly limited edition, coin and patch set. The entire run is limited to only 111 examples. One side of the coin features a tribute to the aircraft's famous period as 'Black Mike' in the hands of 111 Squadron, while the flip side celebrates XV582's record making speed run in 1988, while part of 43 Squadron, with a reproduction of the original nose artwork by the navigator on the day, Flt Lt Michael Pugh Davies.

The accompanying patch features custom artwork of XV582 and the famous Spook, specially commissioned by the BPAG. Each order consists of one double sided coin in a presentation box and one patch. Available here- https://british-phantom-aviation-group. ... -patch-set

Question regarding Black Mike - XV582.

I just wondered wether anyone would know why XV582 which was with 43 Sqdn at Leuchars was chosen to become 111 Sqdn Legend Black Mike? Did Treble One not have any suitable airframes which could do the job or was it because XV582 was a memorable serial number.?

Might be because she was the a/c used to break the Lands End/John O'Groats air speed record. She was in standard scheme at that time.

Apologies for a late reply, we have no idea how we missed this question being asked. Anyway, it is our understanding that it was a combination of the above and the fact that there were so few flying hours hours left on the aircraft that influenced the choice. The all-black colour scheme was originally supposed to only be for a one off static appearance.

Anyway, on the subject of F4-Ks, we have new patches in stock. Based on an original McDonnell Douglas design which was used during the roll out ceremony of the F-4K in June 1966, this traditional style woven cloth patch expands on the original by adding airframe details and the F-4K legend. Measuring approximately 8.5cm diameter/3.5inches (the standard military patch size) it has a merrowed edge, to strengthen and avoid fraying. Check them out here- www.phantomerchandise.co.uk/patches/f-4k-program-patch

On 25th April 2021, the British Phantom Aviation Group achieved the tricky task of moving F-J(UK) ZE360 to Manston Airport where disassembly of the aircraft could continue. This marked a return to the airfield where the aircraft completed its final flight, 30 years earlier.

To celebrate this anniversary, the BPAG have issued this limited edition patch, featuring the spook in our own UK specific guise. This traditional style woven cloth patch measures approximately 10x7cm/4x3inches and has a merrowed edge, to strengthen and avoid fraying. The British Phantom Aviation Group are currently running a crowdfunder campaign to support the work needed to establish ourselves at Cotswold Airport. Among the rewards on offer are patches, signed Squadron Prints and a special exclusive reproduction of a watercolour illustration of our aircraft, signed by the aircrew of XT597's final flight (which was also the last flight of any Spey powered Phantom).

Here's the link to the crowdfunder page- www.crowdfunder.co.uk/uk-phantom-heritage-centre

Many thanks.
