Good evening everyone

If I could ask for a little bit of help from all you guys out there that might know a little bit more about SAC Patches than I do, it would be very much appreciated.

I picked the patch up at Duxford Show on Saturday a long with a few others that I have managed to Id...but this once as defied all my search efforts... I don`t normally get stuck when I find myself trying to ID a patch but this little gem as got me stumped... I can not find any reference to it what so ever.

So guys, I would like to know if anyone can help me ID it.... good luck and many thanks in advance for any info, no matter how small, hope you can shed some light on to it for me.

The Patch is 12cm in diameter

100 MISSIONS... STRATEGIC. AIR . COMMAND... TANKER. FRANK

Again, I very much appreciate any help you can offer.

Thank you

Kind regards

I believe some tankers used to use (maybe still do I don't know) the callsign 'Frank' and it may relate to this

I have somewhere a recording on the transmissions of when the F-15s shot down 2 Mig 29s over Kosovo and during the process of determining other air traffic in the area the AWACS confirms that a KC-135 'Frank xx' was in the area

Dont know if this helps you in anyway?

Just found this - check the link in post #20 - think this is the recording I have

Hi Knife 04

Many thanks indeed for the reply and info, it really is very much appreciated. This one really stumped me and I thought there would be some info out there or at least a photo of the same patch on one of the many web sites, but nothing could I find.

Your info paints a more clearer picture of possibly what the patch refers to. I will check out the link.

Thank you once again.

Tim

Didn't SAC disestablish in 1992 with the KC-10's going to AMC along with most of the KC-135's(some went to ACC/USAFE/PACAF), with that in mind I would assume that this patch stems from before 1993?

I think it is for 100 missions refueling FB-111's
Every SAC FB-111 had it's own tanker back in the days.

Meaning: A 4 ship FB-111's had 4 tankers (a personal tanker) go figure ;-)

So it seems this may be narrowing things down to the 380BW or the 509BW, as they were the only two operational FB-111A wings.

Hi rh226

Wow...thank you for your added info, with all the information you guys have given, I think we are almost there. Still can't find another picture of the patch anywhere on the patch sites though.

Thanks again rh226, much appreciated.

To ID your patch I believe it was for a controller named Frank who worked at eastern radar, and kept a flying suit at Mildenhall. This was presented to him on completion of his 100th tanker flight from the Hall,by the tanker crew.
