TR-1/U-2 Patch

Post by jingernut » Thu Jun 18, 2020 10:50 pm

Found this patch in my collection, and wondered if it had much value?

It appears to be a printed patch on yellow, and then it's been embroidered around the edges.

Thats a nice authentic 1980s patch, sometimes worn on the pressure suits. Now, it should get you around the £10- £20 mark, it depends on who is after it. You don't see them that often and its in good condition. Nice piece of Raf Alconbury/Beale AFB history.

I didn't know if it was that old or not and also was not sure about it being printed, rather than a fully embroidered patch. I can't see any examples of this online anywhere. Do you have any links to others like this one?

Thanks for the info.

You often find cheap and nasty embroidered patches from that era are the fakes rather than screen prints like you have here, although I may be wrong. I had a TR-1 neckscarf (remember when aircrew used to wear those!) from 1992 which was the same shade of yellow and similar screen print. The fact it says TR-1/U-2, rather than just TR-1 makes me think it's late 80s/early 90s, rather than early 80s. I doubt you'll easily find a photo of another like yours, it's unusual rather than rare if you know what I mean. You could put it on eBay and get £2 one week or £31 the next.
