USMC F-18s arrival at Lakenheath

Post by albur99 » Sun Oct 18, 2015 11:27 am

Filmed at the Heath Saturday 17th October 2015 using a Lumix GH4 camera. I had to shot straight through the fence - so used max aperture to de-focus it as much as possible. With a long focal length its amazing how you can make it disappear (100-300mm Lumix lens at max)

I have never got to see any USMC F-18s here before (live too far away) so was totally chuffed to catch these !

I thought they would have grey markings on grey paint ! My eyes nearly popped out when I saw the CO's jet ! :Wow: - its like its 1976 all over again !

Absoultely huge thanks to the gentleman from Harlow Essex I met on the RW29 mound that morning - otherwise I would have never known these were coming in!
Owe you a pint, sir...!

Hope you like the video....

Great work Alan....Many thanks for sharing. Glad they passed you nice & close

I always wonder what the pilots must think when they see a crowd of spotters waiting and
all the cameras pointing at them.I would loved to have been there to share the experience with you ;)

Cheers

We were at the fence near where the jets were parked yesterday, when we were told that the departure had slipped by 24 hours - Shortly afterwards the Hornet pilots arrived in a bus to chat to us, including asking for email addresses of the photographers present so that they could send Hi-res shots of the jets to the pilots to display in their squadron Ops Room! Apparently the crew were out for a meal on Saturday night when one of them got a text from California telling them they were "famous" and that their jets were on the internet!

Nice to keep relations between the spotters and the military at such a level!
